A new Name-the-Starbaby challenge!

A new Name-the-Starbaby challenge!

By Tara Ryazansky

It seems like some of the most stylish high-profile celebrity couples are expecting all at once. If their taste in baby names is as on point as their red carpet looks, we can expect to hear some exciting announcements in the coming months. I thought I would take a try at guessing once again–and I would love to hear your predictions as well.

Actors Eva Mendes & Ryan Gosling are having a baby. Mendes says she expects their child to be the “most beautiful, bilingual, part-superhero, well-dressed, romantic” ever. We wouldn’t imagine anything less. I hope they come up with something that’s hipster cool with a sexy vibe.

My guesses: Bruno, Ulysses, Caspar, Bernice, Lux, Ines

Kelly Rowland, whose full name is Kelendria, is expecting with husband Tim Witherspoon. It will be their first child and the couple has announced that it’s a boy. Making the switch from Kelendria to Kelly makes me think that Rowland favors simpler, more streamlined names.

My guesses: Roman, Kai, Slate, Clyde, Reed, Rowe

Reality stars Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick will be having their third child around Thanksgiving. Baby will join siblings Mason and Penelope, whose names I find it hard to see a real connecting force between. Both of their kids have meaningful middles though, Dash and Scotland respectively. I look forward to hearing what they pick because it’s likely to start a trend, as their first two have.

My guesses: Archer, Duke, Henry, Freya, Wilhelmina, Ellison

Hayden Panettiere and boxer fiance Wladimir Klitschko are expecting their first child together. I wonder if they will pick a name that reflects Klitschko’s Eastern European heritage. So many of those names work well here in the States. Or maybe they will opt for something with the all- American charm that Hayden exudes.

My guesses: Konstantin, Maxim, Wyatt, Anya, Brooke, Shura

Christina Ricci and husband, James Heerdegen have already welcomed their baby but as of this writing haven’t revealed the name. Ricci has turned out stellar performances in dark roles since she was a child. I can’t help but picture her picking a name that reflects a slightly Gothy edge.

My guesses: Edgar, Grey, Alaric, Rue, Maeve, Persephone

Rachel Bilson and Hayden Christensen are due this fall. I’ve always been a fan of Bilson’s sweet vintage style on the red carpet. I hope that she will pick a sweet vintage name to match. Perhaps they will go for something infused with a little bit of Southern eccentricity to reflect her role on Hart of Dixie.

My guesses, Beau, Johnny, Montgomery, Mavis, Etta, Frances

Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher are pregnant with their first baby. Rumors are that the couple is expecting a girl who they plan to call Finn, though other sources predict they will opt for a traditional Russian name reflecting the mom’s heritage—or maybe they will go for a 70’s name.

My guesses, Finnegan, Luka, Kelso, Finn, Agnessa, Betsy

Scarlett Johansson and fiance Romain Dauriac are expecting their first child. Dauriac is a French journalist, so perhaps they will pick something that reflects his culture. I could see this couple opting for something with a literary or artsy twist.

My guesses: Talbot, Abel, Lionel, Djuna, Eugenie, Celestine

Actress, Zoe Saldana (shown) is rumored to be expecting twins with her artist husband, Marco Perego. Her husband is Italian, but the couple plan for their baby to be bilingual in Spanish and English, Saldana’s two languages. Will the couple pick a multicultual name or perhaps something that connects to Saldana’s dance background?

My guesses: Hugo, Elian, Riel, Estrella, Giselle, Marina

Whose baby name will you have your eye on in the tabloids? Do you have any guesses to add to my lists?
