Stop. Giving. Girls. Names. That. Are. Clearly. Masculine. I mean, come on! Owen. OWEN. There are some boundaries people! Whoever thought of this, just stop.

skyladder Says:

Well I mean it's infinitely better than James and does actually sounds somewhat soft and feminine

FractalShadow Says:

It could work for a girl's name, fitting in with other -wen ending names.

NameObsession Says:

Ya'll are so judgemental about names. Chill maybe?

Cormorant Says:

I wouldn't.

galaxywasted Says:

Usually I’m not a fan of “crossover” names but they don’t bother me badly, and I honestly like Owen better on a girl.

iipostmvh Says:

I don't care for Owen on either gender, but seeing it on a girl doesn't "bother" me.

If you really want to slap a boy's name on your daughter, at least put it in the middle spot or pair it with something feminine. I know an Ysabel who had Owen as her middle, and one of my former classmates was a girl named Owen Rose. None of them have had major problems with their names, but that's only because there are weirder names around. If girl-Owen doesn't have another name to fall back on, you're setting yourself up for trouble because she'll have to field questions about her gender all the time.

P.S. Owen Rose actually got the better end of the naming stick. Her sister's name is Arvin Jude and her brother's name is Meg. Imagine how difficult it must be for the other two.

Impwood Says:

Or what about Olwen? It's unrelated to Owen but it's a Welsh girls' name, meaning "white clover".

Rowena is an alternative. It's a literary name and has Owen in it. It's clearly feminine, too, although it's probably not their style.

RoddyThlayli Says:

I don't particularly like Owen on a boy (probably due to my friend having a friend names Owen who hated me for no particular reason), but it's really awful on a girl.

Theodora_Phoenix Says:

While not the worst name you can give to a girl, not the best either. Keep looking.

jordalini Says:

This is a top BOYS name, it is not ok to name your girl this, that is torture.

neworleans Says:

Triple thumbs down... Ew, ew, ew. Try Owena.

emsky Says:

Awful. Owen is not a girls name.
