One of the surname names for boys on its way to becoming unisex, this name broke into the Top 1000 for the first time in 2013 for girls. While it sounds masculine to us, because of its two-syllable er-ending sound so trendy with boys’ names, many parents apparently disagree.

I prefer it for a girl. My cousin’s nn is Karter. It fits her well. She has light hair, darker skin and hazel green eyes. She’s also funny and adventurous

I'm not a fan of this name for either gender, but prefer it for boys. Most of these names sound like what they are - surnames. There are some last names that I love as first names, but in general, they don't appeal to me.

Carter, I mean, I guess it sounds alright, although, I must admit that the meaning kinda sucks.
"What was I named after, mommy?'
"A cart maker."
"..... What?"

not my favorite, but the fabulous Peggy Carter (Captain America, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and most recently Agent Carter) gives this name a worthy namesake

Well it's definitely not the worst "boy name for girl", quite docile.
