Pop Culture References for the name Allysoun

clairels Says:

Should Nameberry just pick a list of 100 "approved" names that they use over and over again and never list anything else? That would make for a very boring and un-useful site. Nameberry has the right--actually, the responsibility--to list every name that's part of the cultural zeitgeist. As the biggest name site on the Web, they have a duty to their users to chronicle everything that's going on in the baby naming world, whether or not they or you approve of it, and that includes names like Khaleesi and Allysoun that a lot of people hate. Merely listing a name is not an endorsement of that name.

jackiet Says:

This is similar to the Middle English spelling, Alisoun, that you can find in Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. Not that I support anyone using this spelling these days, but it was probably an historic alternative to Alisoun. Historically, given names did not have set spellings.

Something changed on nameberry recently. They redid their website, which is fine, but then a whole hideous barrage of misspelled names flooded it. I'm not talking about Carol vs. Carole or Joanne vs. Joann. No, such wonders as Allysoun. Possibly some misguided soul named her daughter Allysoun somewhere, but the right path is to get her spelling lessons, not to emblazon her name choice all over a reputable name site.

Floris Says:

Maybe.... And I don't know why every botched up name needs a Nameberry entry.

Allysun is really terrible imo.

what the hell is this? the name 'allison' alone isn't that attractive, let alone this awful butchering of the spelling.
