Confession: I'm one of THOSE girls that daydreams about names that sound good with HIS last name, even though we're not even close to that point in our relationship... friendship... acquaintance... Anyway, I hope Mr. Man'll have his own well-thought-out opinions (do guys think about this like girls do?), but if not, this is what I've got. I even found middle names. I focused on meaning as that's becoming important to me. But rhythm factored in (Mr. Man has a one syllable last name); I avoided one-syllable middle names. "Why 10?!" b/c I want 5-9 kids. Even with 4 in mine I felt we had more love to give. But I never want to be the parent who doesn't have time to KNOW/LOVE/CHERISH each child uniquely; I've seen families with 9 who do this- others not quite, so we'd play it by ear. But 10, being in the teens, seems too extreme (for me). I'm a fan of adoption, too! There is nothing more beautiful than second chances : ) Obviously Mr. Man will have a say but he's not here yet...

Here's a list of really great (differing kinds of great, too) names that I have given or plan on giving to some of my favorite little people before they're born. I call them fetus names... my sister prefers I call them in utero names, but she's not here now is she?

  • Biblical Names

Last Updated June 19, 2014 at 2:44 PM

I live in a sub-culture that loves their Bible names. Moses, Ezra, Naomi, Caleb, Micah, Magdalene, Leah, etc. are all ones I've heard (even a little baby Boaz!). I've decided that I should be fully prepared in case the occassion should arise where I would need to know which names I do or do not like. Mary, Elizabeth, Adam, Daniel, Matthew, etc are all out of the question...

So imagine that you're pregnant... with sextuplets of unknown genders... Hmm... Nevermind. That's kind of hard to imagine... I hope none of us are ever in that kind of naming dilemma. So... These are just the top 6 names in each gender that I'm loving right now. They are in order of how I'd prioritize which names I feel I MUST use- starting with a girl because I have more favorite girl names than boy names- in fact I have 6 favorite girl names and 4 favorite boy names... so that's why its sextuplets instead of, what is it, quintuplets?.

  • Strangely Appealing Names- ending in 'a'

Last Updated June 19, 2014 at 2:47 PM

I've always loved the name Tuva, just how it sounds and all. Then the literary nerd in me is crazy about the name Aphra. When I discovered Elthea (also a lovely sounding name) I decided I needed to find some companion names to go with these appealing 'a' ending names. So here goes:
