You and your siblings.

If this is too personal someone give me the heads up and I'll delete it.

I'm the oldest of 5 girls, no brothers and always thought how difficult of a time I'd have naming 5 girls of my own. Do you think your parents did a good job naming you and your siblings? Do your names match, is there a theme, completely off the wall...........?

These are my siblings in order of birth (all girls) -

Lisa Dawn - That's me. I was almost Sunshine phew, I should be grateful for the compromise of Dawn in the middle.
Tamera Marie nn Tami - Marie our great grandmothers middle name. Her first was Mirpah. Close one.
Kristina Renee - She was almost Andrea Renee. I've always loved Renee. She's never gone by a nn and I hated when some people tried to call her Kris.
Ashley Diane - Almost Rebecca or Blair if she was a boy. I was told she was a boy at birth, she's born on April Fool's Day.
April Violet - the third daughter born in April. Maybe my mom ran out of ideas. Violet was our great grandmothers first name her middle was Harriet. She passed away before we were born.

I just thought it would be interesting to see the sibsets of the past since we are all thinking of sibsets for the present or the future.

Re: You and your siblings.

Well I have two sisters and a brother, all older than me. So in order;

Bernice Lynn, Warwick John, Marcia Louise. Different mum though and so different naming style.

Re: You and your siblings.

Me = Eleanor Lauren Margaret
Sister = Miranda Helen

I think my mum did a good job. Eleanor and Miranda both a have historical/literary feel to me (they both appear in Shakespeare e.g.) as well as have lots of nn possibility.
They also, accidentally, contain 7 letters and 3 syllables and end with the same sound (Eleanor in UK is prn 'EL-ə-nə')

What my mum wishes now is that she also gave Miranda a 2nd mn as I have.

Re: You and your siblings.

Well, you know me, Disa, nothing is too personal for me to divulge to the entire world!!!

I am AILSA JOYCE
and I have a younger adopted sister, ALISON MARY

We got our middle names because my mother is JOYCE MARY, and I know I have drawn the short straw with mine, and spend a great part of my life cursing my mother. (joking).

I also think she chose names - Ailsa and Alison - that are FAR too alike in spelling and sound and initial letter. I can still walk down to the village now and meet people who call out cheerily "Hello Alison!" . So I am either being called a name that they can't pronounce and spell (Ailsa is invariably Elsa, Alisa, Aisla etc) or else I am being called my sister.

But enough grumbling!

I am looking forward to hearing about everyone else's siblings!

xx

Re: You and your siblings.

I'm Alice Elizabeth and my older sister is Lauren Emma. I love my name but my sister is just ok with hers. She thinks it sounds weird lol. I've always thought that it's strange how our names are really different in style. Alice is kinda old fashioned whereas Lauren is a lot more modern. Btw i love your name Ailsa!

Re: You and your siblings.

I am Winifred Alice Clotilde, although (thankfully) I have been called Winnie for my entire life. I would hate to have a common name, and I love that people who meet me will continue to associate my name with only me! I dislike the 'fred' in my name, but I can't imagine myself suiting anything else, after all these years. Alice is very popular over here, so I am glad that it is not my first name, and the 'clot' in Clotilde makes me thankful that that was relegated to a mn, too!

My elder brother and sister are Clovis Edmond Aubrey and Adamina Maria Calanthe (Mina most of the time).

I would say our names are similar enough in style and (non-existant) popularity to be a good fit, and I like that both my sister's and my name contain a male name element (Fred and Adam). I've always been jealous of her for Calanthe, though!

Re: You and your siblings.

I'm Stephanie Jane-So exciting isn't it? Jane was my grandmother's middle name.
My brother: Joseph Lee-Again so original...

:D

Re: You and your siblings.

in order of who was born first:

my brother : Luke Anthony
me : Rose Louise
sister: Poppy Frances
youngest sister :Hermione Elizabeth

I think my parents did well with our names i think my youngest sister was glad she wasnt a boy as my mum wanted to call her Hamish the other option was Tallulah and Hermione is definitely Hermione and not a Tallulah! I think we all like our names ( i know i do) though poppy had an issue with her name as our surname begins with P
( thus polly pocket jokes plus there were very few Poppy's around in the 80's).
My parents said they were never set on a name until we were born and then decided what name would fit us best out of their list!

Re: You and your siblings.

Joy Ann
Susan Gaye
Dana Diane (me)

My sisters tease I should have been "Merry;" Susan had to go by Gaye until she was 14 and then she changed to Susan (too much teasing). I am much younger, and therefore am not part of the theme.

Re: You and your siblings.

Im Sophie Elizabeth. Elizabeth is my moms middle name and Sophie Is just her favorite name at the time.
My Sister is Cecilia Blaire. I pretty sure she likes her name, because she named her daughter Alexis Cecilia. Blaire is my Grandmas maiden name i plan to use it for my daughter too.

MY brother is Nathaniel Jon nn Nathan i thinks he likes it but not to sure. Jon is my Dads midle name im not a big fan.
