I wish I was a single parent just until I could name the kid

I have two daughters Courtney Olive, called Olive and Kit Aurora. Expecting 3rd daughter any day now.

Conversations with my soon to be ex-husband (just kidding)

ME: How about Mae?
HUBBY: Like Mae West?

ME: How about Mabel?
HUBBY: Are you giving birth to a 90 year old woman?

ME: Sunday, nn Sunny
HUBBY: Cute, but only if she is born on a Sunday. (Not likely going to happen since dr says he's going to induce on Friday if I don't go into Labor by then)

ME: Phoebe
HUBBY: No
ME: Why?
HUBBY: Just doesn't sound good.

ME: Mira?
HUBBY: Mirror?
ME: No. Mira. (Dang, he has a point.)

ME: Miri?
HUBBY: Like Miri and Zach make a porn.
Me: Never mind.

ME: Cleo
HUBBY: Ew.

ME: Georgia
HUBBY: No.
ME: Why not?
HUBBY: Because we LIVE in Georgia.

ME: Luna
HUBBY: Do we speak Spanish?
ME: um, no.
HUBBY: Then no.

ME: Lulu (nn for Luna)
HUBBY: Are we naming a pet or a kid?

HUBBY: What do you need that big knife for?

haha. Just wanted to get my frustrations out!!!!!!!!!

Seriously, I'm not sure how we ever agreed on Olive and Kit.

Thanks for the laugh! That was great!

You know, there was a blog entry on Nameberry recently written by a father of twins who gave his wife a really hard time about naming the babies. She eventually wrote a list of ten names, and he was forced to pick two from the list.

Please keep us posted! :-)

How did you ever get him to agree to Courtney Olive and Kit Aurora? lol

hahaha, thank you soooo much for that laugh. I'm going through the same thing right now. Last night we had this conversation:

ME: Okay, so you like Georgia. Are there other names you like?
DH: Yes.
ME: Like what?
DH: I don't know.
ME: ...
DH: I haven't really thought about it.
ME: Well, is Georgia the only name you like then?
DH: No, it was just something that came to mind.
ME: Well, you don't seem to like any of my names.
DH: It's not that I don't like them. You just have a thousand.
ME: ...

etc etc etc

Oh, he also told me he likes Melanie, which is my real name. That's awesome! If it were 1977.

Her name was going to be Courtney or Kendall, but I had a dream where she told me, her name was Olive. I told my husband, who loved the name and I was like, I'm not naming my baby Olive, but he persisted and got his way and I can't imagine any other name for her.

With Kit, we called the baby Kit when I was pregnant b/c we didn't know if she was a boy or a girl. We were having so many conversations like the one above trying to figure out what to name her, and Olive came in and met her sister for the first time and said, "Hi, Kit." So we chose Kit. I asked her what she thought we should name this baby, and Olive said, "Jimmy." Kit wants to name the baby "Ooh La La". So neither of them are any help this time. :)

Haha. Very funny. I'm glad I'm not the only one.

Thanks. I just read it, (glad to see my husband isn't the only pain in the butt) but that was my list of 10.

Re: I wish I was a single parent just until I could name the kid

I think the trick is to pick several names - maybe seven or eight that you really love and keep casually mentioning them to your husband/partner. Eventually he will like at least one of them because he will get used to it. That's how my husband started liking Veronica and Vincent.
But if you throw dozens of names at him, he doesn't get used to one that's familiar.
It's kind of the way my husband has an obsession with baseball and wants me to enjoy it with him. If he talked about all the teams all the time, I would get bewildered. But he talks about the Dodgers most of the time and mainly about Ethier, Manny, Matt Kemp, Odog, and Furcal. That's about all I can take at a time.

Re: I wish I was a single parent just until I could name the kid

LOL. I've had that conversation a million times! Susan is totally right, just keep mentioning the few you REALLY love over and over, and he'll come around eventually! My husband used to HATE Beatrix, now it's one of his favorites. That happened with bunches of names, I just can't remember any others right now. We had this conversation today:

Me: So you like Felicity?
Him: Yeah, I like it kind of a lot.
Me: Is it your new favorite?
Him: Hmm, I really like Fiona.
Me: What? I thought you hated Fiona
Him: Oh, I meant Penelope

And we have these conversations every day, I think I drive him crazy. He says, "I could never talk to you this much about video games, you'd just ignore me." I'm not even pregnant, although he thinks I am.
