Unconventional Name Ideas?
by elliejane on Sun Feb 22, 2009 8:27 pm
I like rather unconventional names that have a nature/literary/relaxed feel to them. I'm expecting my first child and my husband and I can't seem to find a name we both adore. It needs to be usable for a child, but still unique... a happy medium. I really prefer to stay away from older names... but I'm remaining pretty open to ideas. Names with nicknames would be a bonus as well.
Any suggestions?

Unconventional names aren't my style, but I thought I'd repeat suggestions given to someone who asked about the name Poet (a name that, in my opinion, will surely be a source of teasing). This site has many wonderful names lists (click on "hot lists" to browse, including literary and nature names.

I have found uncommon that I really like from movies (Imogen from Down to You/Tenley from Summer Catch/Esme from Twilight- there are a bunch more I cant think of...) and books (Olympia from Anita Shreve's Fortunes Rocks and Araline, Anethe, and Maren from Weight of Water) but books and movies can be good places to get ideas... and also try looking up supermodel names (and the nameberry supermodel list!)- they usually have beautiful and foreign names....
