Alternative to Audrey?
by kellihope on Tue Nov 03, 2009 5:30 pm
ARG!
We are ttc#2 and dh doesn't like anything I come up with!!DD is Isla Hope, if we have a boy he'll be Grant William, but the only name dh likes for a girl is Audrey! I like it alright, but feel like its way too popular, and seems to be getting even more popular by the moment. I feel its poised to be the next Abigail/Olivia.
Any ideas for a less trendy alternative to Audrey??
names I've tried on him are:
Marin/Marina
Maris
Annabel
Calla
Cleo
Camille
Thanks!

My first thought was Audra, which I think is lovely and fairly similar without being easily confused with Audrey...
Aurelia and Maud have the 'au' part in them and are both beautiful as well.
Auden and Arden are more 'modern' alternatives that might appeal to your SO...
Mallory and Flannery are nice Irish alternatives, although they may be too spunky?
I also thought of Aurora, maybe that has appeal?
the Rory nickname is darling!
Let me know what you think of my suggestions! I'd love to help more if I can and you need it! :)

There are some similar names.
Aud
Auda
Audrina
Audrianna
Audrea
Audette (I don't know if this is real but it sounds like it should be)
Some that have a similar sound.
(Depends if you pronounce it "Ordrey" - the more english way - or more like "Ardrey" - the more American sounding way)
'Or' sounds:
Odette
Ora/Orah
Oralia
Oralee
Orchid
Orla
Oprah
Orlinda
Orpha
'Ar' sound
Arlene
Aura
Aurora
Arah
Ahriana
For some reason Audrey makes me think of Andrea.

Good choices there. I too was going to suggest Mallory and Flannery.
All of the names seem to also mesh well with the name Isla

I like Mallory and dh said he didn't hate it, but we looked it up and the meaning of it is "unfortunate" and as much as I love a name, I don't think I could name her something that meant something so awful

I'm going to put in Audra, too. I knew one and she was just so cheery! Also Aubrey. It's beautiful, too, and very close to Audrey. Means "elf ruler." (That always gets me...how fun would THAT be??)
I do love Audrey regardless, though. I've only met two; one's in her early 30s and the other is 92! So to me, it's not that popular.

I love the name Audrey because I love Audrey Hepburn! Audrey is a sweet name. The association with Audrey Hepburn makes Audrey sound very sophisticated and also so kind and thoughtful. Also elegant in an approachable way.
Audrey Alternatives that are so cute:
Audra - obvious alternative to Audrey
Clara - similar old lady vintage feel
Daphne - sounds cuddly and sophisticated like Audrey
Eliza, another famous Audrey Hepburn role, nn could be Liza.
Eloise - see Daphne
Elspeth - sounds sophisticated and English
Esme - sophisticated
Freya - but I've heard this is very popular in England.
Gemma - cuddly
Georgie, nn for Georgia - cuddly
Hattie - see Clara, nn for Harriet or Henrietta
Hollis - I don't know why but it reminds me of Audrey.
Iris - sophisticated
Ivy - cuddly
Jemima - cuddly
Josie, nn for Josephine
Lucy, but it is popular, too.
Lydia - sophisticated
Matilda - cuddly, love nns Mattie, Tillie, and Tilda
Milly, cuddly, could be a nn for Camille.
Nell, cuddly and sophisticated, could be a nn for Penelope or Eleanor.
Olive - to me this is sophisticated and sounds British
Ottilie - sounds fresh and sweet.
Pippa
Remy - cuddly and sophisticated
Sabrina - famous Audrey Hepburn role, nn could be Brynn maybe?
Sylvie - similar old lady vintage feel
Vivienne - sophisticated, nn Vivi is cuddly.
Wallis - sophisticated, sounds British
