Needing Names for Babies #4 and #5!
by jhanley on Sun Oct 25, 2009 12:32 am
Hello! My name is Jacqueline, and my husband, Peter, and I are expecting our fourth and fifth children in just over two months. We already have two sons, Lucas Charles (7) and Bennett James (2), and one daughter, Sarah Beth (5). We would like to give the twins names in a similar style, and we tend to like two-syllable first names paired with one-syllable middle names. All of the kids' middle names are family names - Charles is for my great-grandfather, James is for Pete's father, and Beth is for my mother, Elisabeth. Names we have as options for the new babies are George (my father), Rose (Pete's grandmother), Ruth (for Pete's Great Aunt Ruthie), Neil (Pete's twin brother), Anne and Cate (for my sisters, Anneliese and Catherine), Bruce (Pete's middle name), and Gates (my maiden name). We do not know the genders of the babies. We'd appreciate your help!

Ok so you have a list of middles, it seems you just need some firsts to make good combos right? Hmmm....
Girls Firsts:
Alice, Anna, Beatrice, Charlotte, Dinah, Edith, Emma, Esther, Florence, Frances, Hannah, Helen, Judith, Laura, Lucy, Martha, Mary
Girls Middles (you already had these):
Rose, Ruth, Anne, Cate
Boys Firsts:
Aaron, Adam, Andrew, Arthur, Calvin, Daniel, David, Edward, Ethan, Francis, Gabriel, Harry, Henry, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Joshua, Levi, Lewis, Martin, Matthew, Michael, Nathan, Patrick, Phillip, Samuel
Boys Middles (ditto girls mns):
George, Neil, Bruce, Gates
Now all you have to do is put them together as you like! Good Luck:)

I really liked elea's suggestion of Annabel Cate to honor both of your sisters. It has good flow and they are both beautiful names.
With Lucas, Bennett and Sarah, I can picture:
Laura Cate
Eleanor Rose
Emma Ruth
Carlie Anne
Caroline Grace
Hannah Cate
Phoebe Anne
Lydia Grace
For boys:
Lewis George
Jackson Gates
Adam Bruce
Abbot Neil
Joseph Gates
Elliot Bruce
Hope I helped:)

I haven't looked at the other posts, so sorry for any repeats!!
Here are some 2 syllable names I think go well with your children's (love all their names, by the way!).
Sarah, Lucas, Bennett and:
GIRLS
Alice (LOVE!)
Charlotte
Emma (although very popular)
Flora
Louise

Molly
Stella
Willa
Calla
BOYS
Arthur
Harris
Lewis
Matthew
Nathan

Thomas
Jackson
Maxwell
Archie
Jamie
Nico
Oscar
Owen
Do any of those appeal? If so, will try to come up with some combinations with your middle names (so many lovely ones there!).

Wow! You guys are great! To some of the posters who suggested Annabel Cate, it is beautiful, but we think we want to keep the two-syllable first name pattern for the twins since we used it for Lucas, Sarah, and Bennett's names. Is that silly?
We liked a great deal of the names you suggested. Here are our picks thus far:
GIRLS
Alice
Charlotte
Emma
Lucy (too close to Lucas?)
Clara (rhymes with Sarah, though)
Ivy
Lily
Hazel
MN: Rose, Ruth, Anne, Cate
BOYS
Andrew
Ethan
Henry
Jacob
Matthew
Nathan
Patrick
Finlay
Tobin
Jackson
Harris
MN: George, Neil, Bruce, Gates
Which of these combine to good GG, BB, or GB twin sets and sound great with Lucas Charles, Sarah Beth, and Bennett James? Our last name is Hanley, just so you know! Also, we kind of like a name that offers a nickname possibility (Lucas = Luke; Sarah = Sar, Sari; Bennett = Ben) even though we primarily use full first names. Thanks SO much!

Girls :
Alice - a classic, and it fits well with your other children's names. My mn :)
Charlotte - another pretty classic, although the double T looks a little similar to Bennett ... but I may be over thinking this.
Emma - beautiful, but very popular, and I think some of your other options fit better.
Lucy - a pretty classic, but I'm afraid I would say that it is too close to Lucas
Clara - Clara is beautiful, and doesn't rhyme with Sarah; it is pronounced clah-ruh, not clare-uh.
Ivy - this one is on my list, too - beautiful and a little spunky.
Lily - again, utterly brilliant. It may be a little hard to say with Hanley, though ...
Hazel - I am more enamoured with some of your other choices, although Hazel is very pretty, too.
Boys :
Andrew - a very handsome classic.
Ethan - this goes well with your other children's names.
Henry - a little tongue twister-like with Hanley.
Jacob - I adore Jacob!
Matthew - another classic.
Nathan - personally, I am not the biggest fan of Nathan, but it does go well with your other children's names.
Patrick - handsome and a good match.
Finlay - to me, this seems a little feminine when compared to Bennett, but that is just my personal opinion.
Tobin - personally, I don't think this goes quite as well with your other children's names.
Jackson - another surname name, this goes especially well with Bennett.
Harris - Harris Hanley is just a little too alliterative, to my mind.
With regards to middle names, Rose is very, very popular at the moment - would you consider using a variation as a first name instead? Rosa, Rosette, Rosanne and Primrose all have two syllables.
Some nice sets :
Girl/girl :
Alice Ruth and Emma Cate
Charlotte Anne and Hazel Ruth
Alice Rose and Clara Cate
Lily Ruth and Alice Rose
Ivy Cate and Alice Ruth
Hazel Anne and Clara Rose.
Girl/boy :
Charlotte Anne and Andrew Gates
Clara Gates and Ethan George
Ivy Cate and Jacob Neil
Alice Ruth and Matthew George
Ivy Ruth and Andrew Neil
Lily Anne and Nathan Gates
Emma Ruth and Patrick Neil
Alice Cate and Jackson Bruce
Lily Cate and Andrew Neil
Hazel Anne and Jacob Gates
Hazel Cate and Patrick Neil.
Boy/boy :
Ethan Gates and Patrick Neil
Andrew Neil and Jackson Bruce
Jacob Neil and Patrick Gates
Matthew George and Nathan Bruce
Patrick Neil and Jackson Gates.
Good luck!

Thanks for your response, twinkle!
I am really loving Alice - it is different from the other kids' names and really cute! I love Charlotte, but also worry about it having a similar sound to Bennett. I actually love Emma, even though it is popular! I'd like to get rid of Lucy, Lily (bad with Hanley), Clara (pronunciation confusions), and Hazel (even though I love it, I don't love the alliteration). Ivy is cute, but does it really fit with the other children?
As for boys' names, our favorites are Ethan (but no nickname), Jacob, Patrick, and Jackson! Seems to fit with your assessment.
From your sets, I love Emma Cate, Alice Rose, Charlotte Anne, and I'd like to add Ivy Ruth. For boys, I love Ethan Gates, Patrick Neil, Jacob Neil, Jackson Gates, and I'd like to add Ethan George and Patrick George. What do you think?
