Twin Girls

I am expecting twin girls in late January of next year, and need some input and ideas on their names. I have 2 first names picked out, Coraline and Stellaluna. Are these too girly? Too childish? Also, ideas on middle names would be great.

Coraline is cool - it has the classic feel of Cora, a vintage name, with the added interest and charm of Coraline. Coraline can go by Cora, Lina, or Coraline! However, Stellaluna doesn't even feel like a name to me. It is the name of a children's book about a bat, and I still can't get over the fact that Ellen Pompeo named her daughter Stella Luna Pompeo Ivery! I'm sorry! If you like Stellaluna, why not use Estella, Estelle, or Stella?

Estella and Coraline are pretty together, in my opinion! The middle name depends on the length of your last name, but I think something like Estella Vivienne and Coraline Geneva would be pretty with a shorter last name, and Estella Jane and Coraline Rose would be nice with a longer last name.

How exciting! :-)

I'm all for literary names, but I'm thinking that Coraline may be confused with Caroline, and with Stellaluna, I have to admit that I only think of a bat and the star/moon meaning.

I don't know why, but while I love these names as book titles, I have a hard time seeing them on actual babies. Perhaps it's because I've never heard the names used on actual children, but for whatever reason, I only associate them with their book characters, especially Stellaluna.

(If you look in the "Celebrity Baby Names" section, there's a thread on Stellaluna, because of Ellen Pompeo's baby girl.)

I love Cora/Cordelia/Coralie and Stella, though!

I love literary names, and in case you aren't set on Coraline and Stellaluna, you may also like:

Re: Twin Girls

I agree that Coraline & Luna are really pretty together!

I don't really like Stellaluna, for me it's a bit to much. But that's just my opinion! I do like Stella or Luna though.
Maybe:
Coraline ___ & Stella Luna, and calling them Cora & Stella??

Re: Twin Girls

I'm sorry, but I just can't get on the Stellaluna bandwagon, but if you like it go for it! I think Estella (as suggested above) is a great alternative or just Stella or Luna.

Re: Twin Girls

Love carola's suggestion of Coraline ___ & Stella Luna, and calling them Cora & Stella. I think Stellaluna is just too much as one name. I like Coraline quite a lot

Re: Twin Girls

Coraline is pretty, especially if you use the nn Cora (which I love.) I personally prefer Coralie over Coraline but both are pretty choices. For some middles:
Coraline Louise
Coraline Marta
Coraline Luna
Coraline Maeve
Coraline Marie
Coraline Lauren (a bit L heavy)
Coraline Rose (really popular but I love this flow, especially with Coralie!)

For Stellaluna, I just don't see it. It's too much for me. I like Stella and I like Luna but together as a first name, they're just too much. Stellaluna also isn't the same style is Coraline. Some middle names I cooked up with either using Stella or Luna as the first name

Stella Luna (this way you still get to use both names!)
Luna Stella (not as great of a flow as Stella Luna)

Stella Rose
Stella Eve
Stella June
Stella Brianne
Stella Laurel
Stella Mae

Luna Grace
Luna Brielle
Luna Belle (you get the 'ell' factor from Stella in)
Luna Ella (ending of Stella)
Luna Star (meaning of Stella)

For Stella, you could also replace it with Estelle, which I LOVE, and flows well with many middle names.

Re: Twin Girls

I vote with other posters here for keeping Coraline and then substituting Estelle or Astrid for Stellaluna. Or, if you want another children's book name, how about something like Coraline and Eloise?
