New to Nameberry - Need Help

Hi, my husband and I recently found out we're having a girl! My problem is that there were always a few names I had liked and always thought I would name a baby, but now that we're actually having one, I don't love any of them. Looking at our list of names we both like and agree on, none of them scream "the one," if that makes sense. I have looked at numerous baby name sites (including Nameberry), and I just can't find a name that I love. So, I thought maybe coming on here and asking for some advice and suggestions would be helpful!

Here is our list so far. Please let me know what you think, and if there are any other names you think we might like as well. Thanks!

Adelaide
Annabel
Aurora
Beatrix
Cecilia
Celia
Cora
Eden
Fiona
Ivy
Laila
Lila
Mirabelle

Welcome and congratulations! :-)

Adelaide: I think it's a very pretty name...
Annabel: Annabelle is one of my favorite names. :-) I think it's cheerful, warm, and elegant.
Aurora: I think it's very pretty, and love the Rory nickname.
Beatrix: I really love this, too. :-)
Cecilia: I think it's a lovely name, but I'm more of a Celia fan. :-)
Celia: Aha! I really love this name...
Cora: Another one of my favorites (so many are on your list)! I love Cora on its own and as a nickname for Cordelia.
Eden: I think the Edie nickname is sweet, but Eden feels trendy to me.
Fiona: I think Fiona is a great name. :-)
Ivy: I love it!
Laila: Not my style...
Lila: I think it's beautiful...
Mirabelle: I love it!
Rose: I absolutely love Rose as a first name...
Sadie: I think it's a sweet nickname for Sarah...
Sophie: I think it's beautiful, but it's very, very popular, as is Sophia.
Sylvia: I prefer some of your other names...

Re: New to Nameberry - Need Help

Thanks for the replies!

It has been really nice (and interesting) reading all of your comments. I think I have just stared at that list for so long, that none of those names seem to mean anything anymore, so it was nice to see what other people think of them.

I did want to mention that Sadie was my grandmother's name (just Sadie). I do agree that it is a little incomplete by itself. I was thinking that it might make a good middle name?

Also, for anyone else that would like to suggest names, popularity doesn't mean anything to me. I can totally understand how a name's popularity might put some people off, but that doesn't bother me at all. I don't really know what is popular right now, but if you have any name ideas that are popular, I would love to hear them!

Jill - I really like the name Fiona Maeve! It's very pretty. I like a lot of names that were suggested by you and Irisrose and Susan (I can't remember exactly who suggested what):

Beatrice
Alice
Clementine
Cordelia
Maeve
Eloise
Rosemary
Penelope - I've been really starting to like this name lately.
Genevieve - I like this name even more now with the nn Evie.
Phoebe
Cecily

I'm still not sure what name to choose. I think I would like to have a couple of names to have ready in case she doesn't turn out to be our first choice. Does anyone have any good combos for Sadie?

Thanks!

Re: New to Nameberry - Need Help

I forgot to mention one thing. We have a dog named Daisy. We both really like the names Violet, Rose, Ivy (I also kind of like Iris and Aster). Anyway, is it a little weird to name a baby a flower name while our dog has one too? Daisy is getting old now, and (even though it's sad to think about), is obviously not going to live forever. Is it still too strange to pick a flower name, or should we not deny a beautiful name for our daughter just because the dog also has a flower name? Or, am I just thinking too much about this?

Thanks for your help!

Re: New to Nameberry - Need Help

Adelaide - pretty name
Annabel - a cute name
Aurora - too me, it's a little trendy
Beatrix - not my style
Cecilia - nice, but I like some of the other ones on your list.
Celia - i like Cecelia more
Cora - it's ok for me
Eden - i think this name is beautiful - be careful with this one if you're not very religious.
Fiona - not my style
Ivy - i really like Ivy, but hubby vetoed it off our list.
Laila - the only thing that was brought up to us when this was a name we had picked out for our daughter was that it could have a sexual connotation - "laila, I want to lay-ya down..."
Lila - i like this name, but it seems to be growing in popularity
Mirabelle - this is a pretty name
Rose - always a beautiful name, and has so many variations
Sadie - i like it, but a lot of ppl think of it as a nickname
Sophie - too popular for me
Sylvia - not my style
Violet - it just ok for me

My favorites on your list are Lila, Ivy and Eden.

I think it's fine to choose a flower name for your daughter even though your dog's name is Daisy. That similarity just means that you love flower names.

Some of these don't exactly fit your style, but I thought you might want to consider some. Of course, you don't need to use the nicknames suggested, but I just wanted to make you aware of some. I personally don't generally like to use nicknames, but it is nice to have the option!

Another note - Sadie is a diminutive form of Sarah, so it would be very cute to give your daughter the name Sarah and call her Sadie as a nickname, as, to me, it seems rather incomplete as a first name. Best of luck to you and your husband (and Daisy, of course) in choosing a name for your baby girl!
