What do you think of Stellina May?
by abeezee on Sat Nov 07, 2009 1:45 pm
My grandmothers were named Stella and Marylou. Would like to think of ways to honor them.
However, I don't like the name Marylou. She was supposed to be born in June and named June but she was born early so her name was changed to Marylou(for the month of May).
So I thought maybe May or Maia would work to honor her.
Stellina is updated version of Stella and I think I like it better than Stella.
What do you think of Stellina May Z----ner???

This personally is not my taste. I just don't like the sound of it. I would prefer just Stella.
What about Luella? "Lu" from MaryLou and "ella" from Stella? Or Marielle? "Mar" from MaryLou and "elle" from Stella?
I love the idea of honoring both grandmothers but I just don't love Stellina. JMO though.

Stellina is not my taste. I like Stella, though. If you don't like Stella, you could find a name with a similar meaning (star), or you could find a name that uses some of the same letters (eg Ella). I think Marylou is cute, too. Personally, I would just use the names as is to honor your relatives. I really like these names without any 'updates' or 'modernization'.

I love Stella and would consider it for my baby, but a friend already named hers that a few years back. My only issue with Stellina is that in Italian, -ina is a diminutive, and while "little star" is adorable for a young one, I wonder how the name would age? Will she still be an -ina type in, say, her 30s and beyond? I love how you're thinking of honoring your relatives with their names.

I think Stellina is kind of interesting, but I would never name my own daughter that. She might hate it. I know my daughter Laura would not like Stellina. Stella would be better. Love another poster's idea of Luella. Stella
May is very pretty, also Estella
May nn Stella. Luella
May is maybe too much. I like
Luella Mireille better. Mireille is pronounced meer-AY. Very pretty. Also love Estelle Mireille. Also Estelle Marina.

I prefer Stella May, which I think is very pretty. I do like the vintage charm of Stellina, though. :-)
More names to honor Stella and Marylou:
Estella May
Marielle (combining part of Marylou with part of Stella)
Mariella (Dutch form of Mary which honors both names)
Stella Marion
Good luck! :-)

I too prefer Stella over Stellina. I like May though. Or have you considered one of the many versions of Mary? Marian, Mariel, Marit, Manon, Marin, Maura, Moira, Miriam, Marilla, Molly, Marilyn, Maren, Mayra.

I don't like Stellina May. Stella May hands down way better. Also the name Stellina reminds me a lot of the former Soviet leader Stalin then I start to think of the Cold War, Great Terror etc.

If you want to "update" Stella, as you say, why not choose the sophisticated and beautiful Estella rather than Stellina, which looks made-up in my opinion. Estella is lovely.
Estella
MayEstella Mabel
Estella Mariam
Estella Marie
Estella Mary
Estella Maybelle
Something like that?
