Trouble choosing a name
by krog on Thu Nov 05, 2009 6:46 pm
Hi everyone,
We are closing in on our due date and we are not set on a name.
Any thoughts are MUCH appreciated:
My DH's faves:
Amber
Rose Marie
(I like Rose, do not love Marie in this case. Here Marie sounds kind of boring and old to me, AND our last name s.l. Roberts. Still not sold on alliteration "R.R." A good, more fresh mn could make the alliteration more tolerable for me perhaps? Either way I think we need a strong, usable mn if we went with Rose Roberts. Middle name ideas with Rose Roberts?)
My faves:
*Victoria (possible mn: Lauryn)
Camille
Brooke
Hawley (my middle name pronounced Holly)
Kinna (a family name. pronounced Kee-na, Tina with a "K")
I am more flexible with MN's on my name list.
Thank you!

From your lists, I like Rose, Camille, and Holly (but I like it spelled the traditional way - I know the spelling you suggested comes from your own middle name, but if you plan on using it as a first name, I would change the spelling to avoid pronunciation issues and to make it look more like a formal name).
I also think you should consider some variations of Rose, like Rosalind.
Rosalind Gail Roberts, is one suggestion that could work.
Some middle name suggestions:
Rose Elise Roberts
Rose Camille Roberts
Rose Annabel Roberts
Rose Elizabeth Roberts
Rose Noelle Roberts
Camille Simone Roberts
Camille Audrey Roberts
Camille Alexandra Roberts
Holly Lorelei Roberts
Holly Camille Roberts
Holly Evelyn Roberts
Holly Caroline Roberts

I also vote for Victoria. I think it sounds great with a Roberts-type last name.

Amber: Here's what Pam and Linda wrote about Amber:
"Out of style now: try Ruby, Jade, or Pearl."
I have to agree with them...Amber honestly feels dated to me, reminding me of names like Tiffany.
Rose Marie: I absolutely love the name Rose as a first name! :-)
Rose Evangeline
Rose Elizabeth
Rose Genevieve
Rose Juliet (oops...not with your last name because of the Ts)
Rose Julianne
Rose Marielle
Rose Victoria (combines both of your favorites)
Victoria: I think it's very pretty, but I'm not much of a Vicki/Tori fan. (I do know one Victoria who managed to go through life as just Victoria, and I think it's a gorgeous name.)
It's #27 now, which may or may not bother you. Lauren (the yooneek y spelling looks trendy/misspelled to me) and Victoria both have the same "or" sound, so when I say Victoria Lauren out loud, I hear a lot of "or." From your list of middles, I think that Victoria Brooke and Victoria Camille sound beautiful.
You may also like:
Victoria Blythe
Victoria Jane
Victoria Louise
Victoria Marin (has Lauren's feel to me)
Victoria Maeve
Victoria Pearl
Victoria Simone
Victoria Wynn
From your list, I really love Rose Victoria.
Best wishes to you! :-)

Ooops! I forgot the rest of the list! :-)
Camille: I think that Camille is beautiful...
Brooke: It feels pretty trendy to me, and I think some of your other names sound better with Roberts.
Hawley: I think it works as a middle name, but as a first name, I'm thinking she will encounter spelling problems.
Kinna: I prefer some of your other names...
Good luck!

You're so welcome! I love the name Marielle, and know a darling, brilliant girl with the name.
She pronounces it Mary-elle.
I think it's so elegant!
Good luck! :-)
