What do you think of the name Andie for a girl?

Usually I'm very opposed to nickname names, but I don't like the full version, Andrea, and I can't think of any other names that give the nickname Andie.
So, what do you think? Does it work? Is it cute? Any alternate suggestions? Which middle name combo did you like best? Any suggestions for those?

Any and all input is appreciated :)

I know an Andrea who always goes by Andie, and I really don't care for either name, personally. It doesn't help me that Andie means "manly," either. Sorry!

Some other names that you could get Andie from are Andra and Andreina, but I don't like those too well, either, and I doubt you will if you don't like Andrea.

Do you want a nickname name, or do you just really like Andie? Here are some other options: Abbie ("joy of the father"), Aggie ("virtuous, good"), Edie, Hallie ("praise the Lord"), Ivie, Lottie ("free"), Maisie ("pearl"), Nellie ("light" - I LOVE Nell), and Sadie ("princess").

If you really want Andie, I like Andie Sophia the best.

A nickname for Alexandra, Cassandra, Andromeda or Miranda, maybe? Otherwise I don't like it.

Re: What do you think of the name Andie for a girl?

I think of Andie only as a nickname, for both boys (Andy) and girls.

I think that Andie could be a nickname for:

Calandra
Cassandra
Candace
Alexandra
Miranda

I'm going to vote for one of the Sophia combos, because Columbine sadly still reminds me of the massacre.

Good luck! :-)

Edit: Oops! Sorry for the repeat!

I actually really love the suggestion of Cassandra... Thank you so much :)
I used Columbine because of this assembly about the first girl killed there, strangely enough named Rachel, that I had about a year ago. I don't know how to explain it, but it almost felt as if I had a connection with the girl, even though I had never met her before. The assembly touched my heart, and the Columbine massacre happened no more than 30 minutes from my house. I know it has a very sad relation to the school, but it still has a lot of meaning to me, and good is coming from the bad now (because of the people at the school and the victims).

For Andie, I think of the main character in "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" (yes, that's probably sad, but I do!). She was gorgeous and a bit sassy and I think the name suits that. I voted for Andie Sophia Grace. I also love the idea of Cassandra nn Andie!

Re: What do you think of the name Andie for a girl?

I don't know if I like the name Andie for a formal name, but I voted for Andie Sophia June with the idea that you are contemplating suggestions for a first name other than Andrea to use Andie as a nickname. I like Cassandra or Alexandra (or Alexandria). I don't dislike Andrea per se, but it has always bothered me that the root word for 'man' is part of a girl's name and means 'manly.' Alexander/Alexandra and Cassandra include this root also, but meanings are modified by other parts of the name to mean, respectively "defending/helping man(kind)" and "shining upon man(kind)."

I think Andie isn't in popular use for boys named Andrew (going more often by Drew than Andy for the time being), and yet not completely unheard of for a girl. I have never known anyone name Andrea, Alexandra, Cassandra, or Miranda to go by Andie - they would be (still just) Andrea, Alex/Ali/Lexie/Sandy, Cassie/Sandy, and Mindy/Mandy/Randi, respectively.

Andie reminds me of Andie MacDowell, whose full name is Rosalie Anderson MacDowell. Anderson has got to be probably the most masculine name ever if we are going by meanings! But it is probably a family name. She seems to go by "Rosie" otherwise, so I don't know whose idea it was to promote her under the name Andie. It also reminds me of Molly Ringwald's character in "Pretty in Pink," so I feel it's sort of 80s but not thoroughly so like "Jennifer."
