Greta Dae or Eva Grace?
by meeshlip on Sun Aug 23, 2009 2:03 pm
We love Greta Dae but our families hate it. Do you think it is too outdated of a name? Do you think we should take into consideration what our families think? Everyone loves Eva(pronounced eh-va) Grace but I am afraid the names are too popular? Do you think we should spell it Evah so that people don't call her ee-va? Any thoughts would be much appreciated!

Greta Dae is lovely! Dae isn't a favorite but Greta is divine! Thats def. my choice and also the name of the lovely Greta Garbo. Its not your family's choice, they had their chance now its yours and it won't make a deference when shes born, they'll love her just the same.

Thank you! Any suggestions for middle names for Greta? I liked the sound of Dae with Greta but am not set on it.

I think Greta is beautiful! Simply lovely. Have you thought of naming her Margaret, Greta for short? I would go with Greta since you love it. I think Eva Grace is pretty but as you said, popular, and she may be one of many she knows with the same or similar name/names. I am not a big fan of Rae. Not sure if it is the spelling or sound, but it does seem a bit dated. As far as a mn for Greta, I looked back at the blog post of British names for some ideas:
Margaret Ottilie nn Greta
Greta Ottilie
Greta Carlisle
Greta Muir
Greta Kate
Margaret Kate nn Greta
Greta Willow
Margaret Willow
Greta Lisle
Margaret Lisle
Greta Romilly
Margaret Romilly
Hope this helps! Remember, this is your daughter and it is most important that you love and feel good about her name. Your family will love your daughter no matter what you choose. Good luck!

I love Greta Dae, and I wouldn't worry about family reactions. They'll get used to it when they're looking at the beautiful baby.
I also like longer middle names since Greta is so short and sweet:
Greta Sophia
Greta Maria
Greta Georgiana
Greta Catherine
Greta Graciela
Greta Simone
Greta Evangeline
For Eva (pronounced EHva) have you considered it as a nn for Evelyn so people would the the idea and pronounce it correctly? I've seen Eva pronounced as EEva and AYva, but EHva, I wouldn't have guessed. Its a cute name, though.

I like Greta Dae! It's a lovely name and your family will get used to it--don't let them take away a name you love. :)

I think Greta, just Greta, is really cute. It is old-fashioned, but in a refreshing way. A mn with the "Rose" prefix (or suffix) would sound nice, and also sound more familiar to your family.
Greta Rosalie
Greta Rosaline
Greta Roisin
Greta Rosalia
Greta Rosette
Greta Rosalind
Greta Rosabel
Greta Primrose

Greta is very pretty but the name Dae throws it off balance, maybe to get the flow better you could have Gretchen Dana or Dana Gretchen?
Greta Daisy
Greta Scout
Greta Lorelle
Greta Sophie
Evelyn Grace would be my alternative instead of Eva.
Of course if you want a totally adorable popular name then name her Ava. I love it.

Greta is truly lovely. I really like Eva Grace but it is very popular. In my mother's group we have a Eva, Ave and Evie (and there are only 5 girls).
What about Greta Pearl?

All such good suggestions! I am loving Greta Pearl! Does Greta Jane or Greta Violet sound good together?
