Jago?

Thanks to Elea's lovely blog about Cornish names, we have added Jago to our list of favorite boys names. Most of you know I have two daughters Mia & Kira and I'm wondering if you thought Jago fit in the mix (not a high priority for me with boys names though).

This name has a slight family connection since Jago is a form of James. James was my grandfathers middle name. James is sort of off limits because my sisters dad (we have different dads) passed away and James was his first name. I always figured one of his daughters would want to use James one day.

Right now we like Jago Madsen (Madsen like the surname, think of the actors Michael & Virginia Madsen)

My questions-
1. How do you feel about Jago?
2. Does it "fit" with Mia & Kira?
3. What middle name(s) do you like with Jago?

Thanks in advance, you're great! :D

Re: Jago?

Let's see...

1. How do you feel about Jago?
I really like it! I'm a bit confused about pronunciation though. Is the 'J' said like a 'Y'? Is the first syllable long like 'ay' or short so it runs into the 'g' like 'ag-O'? Also, it kind of reminds me of Jagger, as in Mick Jagger.

2. Does it "fit" with Mia & Kira?
Yes, in my opinion it does. It's short, two syllables and cool:) I think they make a good sib-set!

3. What middle name(s) do you like with Jago?
I think to answer this question properly I would need to be informed of the correct pronunciation of Jago but I can do a rough list for you.
Jago Dominic
Jago Michael
Jago Anthony
Jago Ezekiel

Hope I can help more soon! Good Luck Disa:)

EDIT: Oh, I forgot to add, I love Jago Madsen too!

Re: Jago?

Thanks Charlie :)
As far as I know it's pronounced like jaygo. If I'm wrong someone please correct me, it might change our opinion of the name.

Re: Jago?

That's how I was saying it. Only now, I say it with a 'Y' and I've just looked it up and found it it is a Spanish and Cornish variation and I know that the Spanish pronounce some 'J's as 'H's so it might be Haygo or Yaygo but here's hoping it's Jaygo. Some other combo's going on the 'Jaygo' theory:

Jago Barnaby
Jago Alexander
Jago Nicholas
Jago Gavin (sorry, couldn't resist. It's after someone special)
Jago Isaac
Jago Dominic (love this one!)
Jago William
Jago Robert
Jago Warwick
Jago Nathan
Jago Tobias

Do you like any of these?

Re: Jago?

Love, love Jago - its on my list - not sure i can get hubs on board though!

I think it fits with your girls name and i'm thinking that it needs to have a 1 syllable-d name like, Luke, George, John for traditional feel or Dash, Taj or Zen if you're a bit more quirky!

Jago George - thats my vote!

Re: Jago?

I love love love love love love love love love love love Jago!!!!!

Seriously, I love it almost as much as I love William, Rhys and Macsen (which is a lot). I would love to use Jago as a first name -- but when I have my 'matchy head' on I have Frederick Jago as a top combo on my list.

It's cool, edgy, fresh, and yet traditional at the same time, so it ticks most boxes in my opinion.

I think it goes really well with Kira and Mia. It has the same crisp sound and shares an exotic-traditional style that Kira and Mia have.

Jago Madsen looks nice but I keep tripping over that 's'. I think Jago Madden or Jago Madoc would flow a bit better :)

Jago August
Jago Beckett
Jago Bennett
Jago Dominic
Jago Finnian
Jago Malcolm
Jago Maximilian
Jago Oliver
Jago Phineas
Jago Sebastian

(For those who are wondering, the Cornish pronounce their Js like we do -- so it's JAY-go)

Re: Jago?

Thank you ladies :) It doesn't really bother me if my boys names match my daughters. Since Jago is new to me I just wanted to make sure he wouldn't be the odd one out. Thanks for the vote approval :)

There are so many middle names I like with Jago that DH does not.
I really like Jago Dominic, Jago Sebastian and Jago Madden (he thinks of the football coach, we don't watch sports). Why are men so difficult???
Combos I like that he doesn't -

Jago Donovan
Jago Preston
Jago Xavier
Jago Harden

I think a one syllable middle name would also really work. Of course once again the ones that I like he does not.
Some one syllable mn's I like with Jago that aren't DH approved are -

Jago Frost
Jago Ross
Jago Burke
Jago Kline
Jago Dash
Jago Pierce

Re: Jago?

Another site says Jago is a form of Jacob FYI. James is also derived from Jacob, Iakobos > Iacomos in Latin. I don't know if this has any bearing on your decision though.

As for my opinion - I LOVE it. Boys names are so hard for me to like as far as consider. I find most of them ok, but not love, especially with the unusual names - my boy name tastes are so boring! With your Kira and Mia, Jago is definitely a very cool name. I would put this on my own list now, liven it up a bit.

Love the name! Goes perfectly with the girls and is a name you don't hear everyday. In regards to middle names, I really like the whole- same first letter thing, like Jago Jackson or Jago Jasper, but the name you chose is beautiful!
