Original name for last name Smith...

Our last name is Smith, and I am having a hard time coming up with a name that won't be too generic, but at the same time not too "out there". My favorites right now are McCoy and Bronson. I also like Calvin and Tyson. Any thoughts or other suggestions?? We only have 4 weeks until our due date and I'm afraid this little guy with be Baby Smith for the first month of his life!! :)

I would pick something unusual. Also I'd choose a name with two or more syllables. Any name in the top 100 would be out. I wouldn't even pick a classic name. So:

Carsten Smith
Levi Smith - is Levi popular? I like it with Smith.
Reuben Smith
Sawyer Smith
Clayton Smith
I like western names with Smith a lot! See above (Clayton).
Cleveland Smith
Hudson Smith, but Hudson might get really popular. Sounds great though.
Dexter Smith
Oslo Smith - I like Oslo with Smith, but check out what Pam and Linda say about Oslo.
Malcolm Smith
Rainn Smith - in this case, I like one syllable
Sullivan Smith
Beckett Smith
Truman Smith

Re: Original name for last name Smith...

Bennett Smith
Conrad Smith
Cullen Smith
Donovan Smith
Everett Smith
Gulliver Smith
Kellan Smith
Montgomery Smith
Orion Smith
Roman Smith
Sawyer Smith
Xavier Smith (I think Xavier Smith sounds awesome...)

I like the longer names with Smith....

Good luck! :-)

Re: Original name for last name Smith...

Love McCoy, Bronson and Calvin. Tyson, not so much, because of Mike and the chicken.

I also like a lot of the longer suggestions offered above. On the nameberry supersearch, I looked for unusual boys' names with 3 syllables and offer the following. Some may be too 'out there" but i like them all and they may just spark some ideas:

Balthasar
Barnaby
Branigan
Cassian (pronounced cash-in)
Edison (I do think this is getting more popular)
Garrison
Hamilton
Inigo
Jupiter
Lazaro
Malachy (mal-a-kee -- this is the Irish version)
Nicholson
Piran
Rafferty
Romulus (though not nuts about names that end in s)
Sheridan
Tulio
Whittaker

Re: Original name for last name Smith...

I can understand you wanting a unique name.

My friend was in the same position for her little boy. Throughout her pregnancy she called him Jet Smith but changed just before the birth to Hudson Smith. Both names are great. I think Jet Smith is a very cool name.

In my kindy class I have a Rio Smith which I love.

Re: Original name for last name Smith...

Thanks for the suggestions! I am really leaning towards McCoy right now... any opinions?

Re: Original name for last name Smith...

McCoy is all last name to me (and the phrase "The real McCoy.."), but I think it's interesting. I like Mack as a nickname.

Good luck! :-)

Re: Original name for last name Smith...
