    Lightbulb Opinions on Cordelia, etc.

Well, I'm due in just over 3 weeks (yikes!!!) and we thought we had this name thing figured out. Now we're both having second thoughts.

Here is (was??) our girl choice: Cordelia Blythe (and yes I know the Anne of Green Gables references and am MORE than ok with it.. I'm a redhead and grew up in Anne-land).

    But.

Now we are having second thoughts. I feel that maybe it doesn't have enough quirky "punch" to it. Our boy choice (we don't know the gender) is Canaan Maverick, and I feel like that has a lot more uniqueness to it. I kind of want a name that people say "oh that's really cool/lovely/etc..." and maybe even "I've never heard of anyone named that before"... without it being freakishly weird or "out there". Is that too much to ask??

Also - our two older kids have names meaning "laughter, little fire" and "joyful one, God with us", so meaning is important... and the joy/laugh/etc theme would be cool, but not necessary.

Here are some others we're tossing around:

    Blythe Adelaide (no NN)
Cordelia Evangeline (with the NN "Cora" or "Delia")
Beatrice Evangeline (with the NN "Bea", two syllables)

What do you think of these? Any other fresh suggestions? We like quirky and weird, but not "too weird" if you know what I mean. Meaning is important.

I know that if anyone can help, it'll be you all!

Please, please, please keep Cordelia Blythe! It's absolutely gorgeous and not at all lacking quirk. Your other choices are very nice, but I really think Cordelia Blythe is perfect.

I love Cordelia Blythe, and I'm also considering Cordelia for my daughters, partially because of the influence Anne of Green Gables had on me as a child. I can't imagine not getting a "lovely" reaction with Cordelia and mixed with Blythe is "cool"!

Well I might be dating myself but I didn't make the Anne of Green Gables connection (I guess I'm out of the loop) but I LOVE LOVE LOVE Cordelia Blythe. I think it's elegant and unique enough that she'll probably be the only Cordelia in her peer group and yet people have heard the name before so they probably won't butcher the pronunciation- unless they aren't paying attention which is always possible.

Your other names are lovely too but I think Cordelia Blythe is stunning.

Cordelia Blythe is my favorite out of all your options. I think it has the perfect amount of uniqueness, spunk, coolness, loveliness, etc. It's an awesome name, the others seem dull next to it.

I like Cordelia Blythe. It's "eccentric classic" i.e. it's no top ten of all time sort of Catherine/Elizabeth name but it's got some history and weight to it a modern constructed name doesn't.

That said, for your joy/laugh theme:
Felicity/Felicia: mean "lucky" and the first definition in Merriam Webster for Felicity is:
    fe·lic·i·ty/fəˈlisitē/Noun: 1.Intense happiness
So luck, happiness. But happiness listed first in modern definitions, luck is the original.

Zelda - Zelda is a lot more quirky than Felicia or Cordelia, but also means "lucky." Zelda Blythe is appealing to me, but my husband won't let me use Zelda because of STUPID NINTENDO! (Argh!) It's a family name for me, though.

As far as meaning straight-up happiness, Laetitia is probably my favourite.

Oh, PLEASE stay with Cordelia Blythe! It's beautiful, classic, artistic and eccentric. Cordelia also has so many quirky nickname possibilities -- Delia, Dilly, Cordy, DeeDee...

If you're dead set on changing it, maybe Fidelia? It's an almost identical sound, but a bit more upbeat. And there's the uber-quirky nn Fiddle.

I have a Cordelia, and she gets many many compliments on her name. I think its a spunky choice- it isn't vintage trendy; its still unheard of enough to be daring!

I also love Blythe, although that is a very soft name and not 'daring' if thats what you're wanting. How about something wordy in the same vein as maverick is?
    Cordelia Pax
    Cordelia Blue
    Cordelia Poet
    Cordelia Reverie
    Cordelia Lark
    Cordelia Painter
    Cordelia Plum
Cordelia Opal (a fresher gem name than Pearl or Ruby)
    Cordelia Indigo

Otherwise, I love nicknames as middle names as a way of spunking up first names.

    Cordelia Maisie
    Cordelia Edie
    Cordelia Birdie
    Cordelia Elsie
    Cordelia Betsy

    Or how about:
    Cordelia Maud
Cordelia Finn (we loved this combination. Gives Cordelia a bit of spunk and also adds to the first name. 'Daughter of the sea' links to Finn nicely!)
    Cordelia Quinn
    Cordelia Ottilie
mum to the lovely Harriet Katia (10) Beatrix Liv (6) and Cordelia Joyce (4) and Lionel Rafferty (1 whole year already)

Love the Anne of Green Gables reference, and I think the nn Delia is very cute. Blythe sounds very nice with it.
    Current favorites:
Girls: Louisa Jane, Caroline Emma, Celia Rose, Lucy Adelaide/Beatrice

Boys: Henry, Nathaniel/Nathan, Avi, Elias, Asher

Name-obsessed twenty-something in the US. No kids right now, but will be TTC in a few years...it's fun to think of the possibilities in the meantime!
