Desperately in search of name suggestions!
We’re 22 weeks pregnant with number 2, and have absolutely nothing for boy’s names. Please help!
Here are my criteria for a name (but nothing is set in stone! If you think of something that doesn’t quite fit, please throw it out there.)
We’d like something relatively unknown – neither my husband, my daughter or I, have names in the top 1000, and while I’m OK with a bit higher popularity than that, a top 100 or so name is out. I’d also like to avoid names that aren’t super popular now, but have been commonly used in the last 100 years or so.
I like names to have some history, but I’m more concerned with usability than “legitimacy” so nature or word names are OK but nothing made up or spelled creatively.
It’s very important to me that a name has a positive meaning.
DH and I both have Irish/Scottish/English heritage and while I’m definitely opened to names from other cultures, I’d rather avoid anything that strongly points to a cultural heritage we don’t have a claim to.
Oh, and I’m OK with somewhat gender ambiguous names, as the rest of us all have them.
Last name will be Johnston. Our Daughter’s name is Sylvan Belle
Here’s our list so far:
Rohan – DH’s suggestion; I like the sound and the meaning, but I’m hesitant about the LOTRs connection.
Ronan/Ronin – DH likes the Samurai connection. I don’t love the flow with our last name and the popularity is getting high.
Caspian – DH isn’t sure on this one. I like the sound and nickname, but it’s somewhat devoid of meaning.
Names DH has vetoed:
Gareth
Torin
Names I’ve vetoed:
Angus
Stetson
Names I like but can’t use for one reason or another:
Linden
Eamon
Emmett
Forrest
Anders
Rowan
River
So, as you can see we need all the help we can get!
Thank you!

Thanks Jill!
Here's what I like from your list:
Everett - love but 2 cousins have already used this.
Bennett - OK, but way too popular
Hunter - This is a family name, so might be a middle name option
Lander - Might be a possibility
Phoenix - Guilty Pleasure name for me. DH doesn't like.
Callan - Like but too close to my name (Carlin)
Spencer - this was my favourite boy name as a teen.
Unfortunately my cousin used it.
Lennox - like, it was on my list but I can't quite decide if it's usable.
Miller - My DH's biolgical family name. Might be a middle name possibility
Cohen - I so wish this was usable. It would be my #1 choice but I'm not comfortable with the cultural implications
Drake - OK
Tennyson - Like the literary connection, but all the "son" ending names are iffy with DH's last name.
Archer - I like Archer but don't like Archie, and I'm not sure it's avoidable
Holden - OK, popularity is a little high
Ryder - GP name, but I think the teasing potential is too hight with a last name that sounds like slang for a piece of the male anatomy.
Tobin- OK. We aren't religious so the meaning makes me a bit uncomfortable.
So as you can see, we're picky! Lots of good suggestions here though, thank you!
