Question Is Leonard too nerd on Big Bang Theory?

I am tire kicking the name Leo. I would happily use Leo as a FN, DH agrees.
My other kids think a Leo should have a longer name and have Leo as a nn.
Leonard is a family name- so it makes sense to use that if I were to use a longer name.

But is it too Big Bang Theory (BBT)? My DD says it would be 'cool' to be named Leonard like the BBT. I said to her "yeah, but he is a NERD. Not like calling a kid a name of some hot cool guy from some show". Do you think that BBT makes Leonard a nerd name? He would pretty well be called Leo most of the time anyway. Or just go Leo? WDYT?

BTW just thought of the episode where they are out camping and are given the 'cookies' and get high not realising they are hash cookies. Leonard complains to the others "even my name has NERD in it!". LOL

Leonard is my second fave character on that show (Sheldon is my favorite ^_^)

That being said, I don't think it makes Leonard a nerd name. Besides, what's wrong with being intelligent?
I love Leonard, and not just because of the character. I think it's a strong, masculine name and Leo is very cool (as a full first name, or a nickname).

I like having a more fuller name as a base. I don't watch big bang theory, but I know of the show. I love the office and think more of "the nard dog" but thats a really big stretch. I would think leonard is a more formal name either way. Its kinda smart guy sounding, but I don't think in a bad way. I think the ooober cool Leo sets it off with ease.

I love the character Leonard too. OK, maybe I need to practice saying it and see if it grows on me to have a 'long' name for a little Leo. Nothing wrong with brains, wish more people had them! LOL My greatgrandpa was a Leonard- and he was a strong honest gentle man. Looking through DH family tree it also appears in his ancestory. Maybe that is a 'sign'.

Smart but not nerdy? Glad to hear it. Leo is really my major crush name atm. I like it's simplicity, strength yet quirk.

    Thanks!!

    Any more thought???

I'll admit that between BBT and Star Trek (Leonard Nimoy) the name has taken on a nerdy edge to it.

That said, the characters on BBT all have rather clunky old-man names, which are on the rise. So I think you'd get away with it.

Nerd is in! While Leonard is a bit too nerdy for me, I definitely think it's usable, and I love the whole good-hearted lion impression I get every time I hear a Leo name. How often would he go by Leonard? I don't think it'd be too bad.

I love Elliot, Leander, and Leopold, all nn'd Leo, too, if you're looking for more options.

Elliott nn Leo... maybe to far a stretch for me
Leander makes me think of Leanne. I did look up and consider Lysander nn Leo but felt it was a stretch too far.
Leopold sounds nerdier than Leonard to me. LOL
I saw some people suggest Leonidas. DH looked at me like I was crazy when I said that name.
Maybe I am just a Leo person?

WHAT... it's on Star Trek too? Wow, maybe it is a nerd name?
I noticed Lennon on your signature... hmmm Lennon nn Leo? Or a stretch way too far?

lol, Leonard Nimoy is an actor that played someone on Star Trek. He played William Bell on the FOX show, Fringe, too.

Lennon nn Leo could work! I also like Lennox. Maybe Leo for that?

My son is Leo, and I get asked ALL THE TIME, " is it short for something?" It used to really bug me, but now I'm ok with just saying, "nope, he's a Gemini named Leo," which also answers the other question I'm frequently asked! I'm perfectly happy with his name, but if such questions would bother you, that might be another reason to go with something longer.

I don't watch BBT, so Leonard makes me think of the singer/songwriter Leonard Cohen, which is a good thing, IMO. I also like the suggestion of Lennon- that could work! Have you thought of Leon?
