I live in the UK and there is quite a large brand named Ambrosia, which make custard and rice pudding so that's all I think of, sorry.

In my opinion, I think it's kind of a hippie name, alike to Petal or Bliss. It does offer a nickname, Ambie, but I think that Ambrosia is still recognizable enough a word to most people that people would think "food," not "unique." Since it has ties to your family, I can see it working as a middle, but not as a given name.

Ambrosia is my name, and I love it! I have never met anyone else named Ambrosia, which is pretty cool

My middle name is Leigh.
When I was a kid everyone called me Amber, because none of my friends could say Ambrosia! Starting in college, and at all of my jobs since, my teachers, friends, and co-workers all call me Ambrosia.Last edited by ambrosia; January 9th, 2013 at 01:21 PM.

It is a hippie name - I am from California and my parents grew up in LA during the 60s, my dad was a surfer, etc.
(I'm 30) I also go by Amber. A lot of people do not think food, and pretty much everybody thinks unique - I get so many complements on my name! A few people do know that it comes from Greek mythology.
