To name after my father, or not?

    Hello berries!!

From the time I was a little girl, I had always dreamed of having a little boy and naming him after my daddy. I never told anyone this, just in case when the time came, I either could not imagine naming a baby boy Forrest (my sweet daddy's name) or my husband did not like the idea and I did not want to hurt his feelings.

My question for you is, do you like the name Forrest for a sweet baby boy? I'm afraid all anybody will think of is Forrest Gump and that is not what I want my boy to be associated with. Is it strange to name my son Forrest but call him by his middle name? Should I just keep Forrest as his middle name? I am so lost as to what is best. I have always wanted to name a baby boy Forrest, but I don't know if I can do it.

Does anyone have any suggestions for his first/middle name that flow well with Forrest? I'm lost with this aspect of naming as well. To give you an idea of the type of names I love, I have two different styles. First, I love traditional names with spunky nicknames, like Catherine nn Cato, Kit/Kitty, or Cricket (may be a stretch), Elisabeth nn Lila, or Lucia (LOO-sha). Second, I love trendy names that most people don't approve of like London, Britton, Sloane, and Harper.

    Thanks for helping
    Meg

I can see a sibling set of Forrest, Catherine and Elisabeth, but I can also see a sibling set of Forrest and Sloane (the trendy names will be the hardest to match - nothing TOO trendy but maybe classic/spunky AND ALSO trendy would work?). I say go with it. Forrest is a great name, and what a lovely namesake for a child to have, your father will be proud and your child will have a someone to look up to and live up to.

I have to say, I love the NNs you listed. "Cricket" reminds me of those old dolls with the tape player in her back. I was obsessed with mine when I was little.

About the Forrest Gump connection, I didn't even think about it until you pointed it out. The first person I thought of was the lead singer of hellogoodbye, Forrest Kline (I'm 27 by the way, just really into alternative music LOL). If the name is special to you, and it sounds like it is, I would go for it.

Well, I do like the name Forrest, and I LOVE that you are wanting to carry on a family name and honor your daddy, that is so sweet! But... the firs think the popped din my mind was Forrest Gump. I think it could be used as a great middle name. I have similar naming taste too... For a boy I like

    Carson Forrest
    Anderson Forrest
    Jackson Forrest
Everett Forrest (Rhett)This sounds so handsome to me... like a southern lawyer.
    Charles Forrest (Charlie)
    Daniel Forrest
    Alec Forrest
    Gabriel (Gabe) Forrest

For girls go with a classic first as use the trendy as a fun middle name! like...
    Elizabeth Harper
    Elizabeth Hayden
    Audrey London
    Catherine Sloane
Grace Britton- This is so pretty!

    Forrest William
    Forrest Matthew
    Forrest Michael
    Forrest Lincoln
    Forrest Dempsey

First off, thank you all so much for your helpful comments! The name Forrest is sounding sweeter and sweeter I am also loving the idea of a more traditional first name and a trendy, fun middle name.

    I love:
    Anderson Forrest
Everett Forrest nn Rhett (too T heavy?)
    Gabriel Forrest nn Gabe
    Forrest Lincoln

I would never think of Forrest Gump. I would think of a forest.
I think Cricket is THE cutest nickname for Catherine. Soooo much better than Cathy, ugh.

I also really like Forrest for you, and agree it would be refreshing on a little guy. Yes, occasionally he may get "run, Forrest, run!" comments, but as another poster pointed out nearly all names have a pop culture reference now. If you love the name you should use it. I've always found something so charming about boys named after their grandfathers.

Gabriel Forrest is a great name if you aren't sold on Forrest as the first name. Other ideas for Forrest as the first name (sorry for repeats):

    Forrest Oliver
    Forrest Grant
    Forrest Henry
    Forrest Alexander
    Forrest Owen
    Forrest Gideon
    Forrest Benjamin
    Forrest Graham
    Forrest Samuel
    Forrest Dexter
    Forrest Wesley
    Forrest Nathaniel
    Forrest Levi
    Forrest Julian
    Forrest Paul
    Forrest Liam
    Forrest Jasper
    Forrest Caleb
    Forrest Joel
    Forrest Eli
    Forrest Dominic
    Forrest Keane

I think of Forrest Whittaker (sp?) when I hear the name. I like the name Forrest and love that it honors your father. It'll pair easily with many names to make a nice combo.
