I think it is weird only because she has been SO dramatic and vocal about her daughter not being a Tomboy and how "she'll croak if her little doesn't love playing dress-up and wearing heels..." ...then she goes and gives her such masculine names. Strange.

All the more reason I don't like the idea of naming a little girl Maxwell Drew. Talk about complexes and gender issues. I just hope little Maxwell Drew doesn't wind up having to go to costly therapy later down the line over this. If someone wants their daughter to grow up a total girly-girl but then gives an obvious masculine name to said daughter, it's sending mixed messages to the child on who she "should be".

Yeah, it's pretty horrendous. She'll be a fitting playmate for her cousin Bronx Mowgli.

    It is ABSOLUTLY HORRENDOUS!

They are basically telling their daughter they wanted a boy
& being a so called celebrity is NO EXCUSE for such a terrible name to give a girl,
in NO WAY is this name unisex.

    Poor child

Stupid. I hate it. And I really cannot BELIEVE she used this name for a girl, because she seems so over-the-top girly and was very adamant in a recent interview about her child not being a tomboy.

Not a fan at all..... I get that there's a fashion right now to give girls androgynous or masculine first names, but IMHO it only works with a feminine middle to balance it out. Using two together, it just stinks of "we actually wanted a boy".

I think it's wrong to say that they wanted a boy because they gave her a masculine name. Usually masculine names are given to girls because some people think that feminine names aren't as 'strong'. I strongly disagree with this though. You can be feminine and strong. It's a horrible message to send to our daughters that you have to take on male attributes to be equal.

Maxwell and Drew were the maiden names of both grandmothers, so it's clearly meant to honor the women in the family. You wouldn't do that if you had a boy-bias. But I think they should have made it Drew Maxwell, since Drew at least has a history of being used for both sexes.

*sigh* Maxine Drew would have been so cute. Then again, why would we even expect something coming from dingbat Jessica Simpson to make any kind of sense?

I came very close to not naming my son Maxwell when I heard that Simpson was considering it for a girl. In our trend-sucking society, it is all too likely that Maxwell would be seized upon by celeb-worshippers as a girl's - or at least a unisex - name. But I finally decided that Jessica Simpson shouldn't be the determining factor in naming or not naming my son Maxwell.

And with regard to the name "Drew" - well, that's far more palatable on a girl (Drew Barrymore).
