I find Natalia far more "Slavic" than Nadia. Nadia has been used in several different cultures that I don't really associate it with one culture.

I agree that Nadia does not sound more exotic that Natalia. So if you like Nadia and your husband loves it then I would keep that name at the top of your list.

Nadia is quite universal and its simplicity is quite attractive with today's trends without being trendy. I do think Natalia is a pretty name and so is Talia. The good news is there is not a bad choice here! Other things to consider that might help you decide- the total sound of your last name, not just the Mc. For ex. is it 3 or 4 syllables, in which Nadia is better. How important is a nn? Both Nadia and Natalia are so pretty I hate to see them nn. I think DeeDee is a sweet pet name for Nadia. And also, what mn are you considering? One may sound better with it and/or with the whole fn/mn/ln combo.

There is one more thing- Nadia is MUCH less popular That would weigh into my decision, but then again, Talia ranks close to Nadia, so if you go with calling her Talia, popularity isn't much of an issue...

I love reading your insight! Each of you have considered so many of the things that are important to me! First of all, I was worried about the 'fit'; I had never heard how many other cultures use the name Nadia before you told me!! I mean, these days, the unwritten rule seems to be, "if you like it, use it!", but with my husband's and my classic names, Michael and Kimberly (Kimmie), I don't want to pick anything that doesn't have the same feel. Since looking and discussing names for our children, I feel very strongly that they should "reflect" us and our family. We feel that Nadia's meaning "Hope" does that; I just had reservations about it's strong 'exotic flare'.

Personally, I LOVE that I am known by my pet name (especially because I work with children a lot ~ Miss Kimmie is easy to pull out) but I also LOVE when there is an occasion to take out my formal given name. I think I love it more as the years go on. So to me, viable pet names for girls has always been an added benefit. On the other hand, my husband has learned that he is proud to use his full name. Nicknames aren't exactly mandatory, but in a world full of difficult and heavy choices, your name is a fun option to explore if given the chance! (Although I do like the simplicity of Natalie, I really don't care for the nn's Nat and Tallie that would be used, nor do I like that that name has become so popular. The nn Talia is charming and I suppose Natalia captivates me because of the differently stressed syllables.)

Syllables and flow are one of THEE most important things to me! Our last name is 4 syllables, prn Mack 'n Ernie.... not nearly as pretty as McPhireson or McNamara! As many of you stated, Nadia and Natalia are equally beautiful yet intriguing in their own way. At first glance, I think 'Slavic' when I see Nadia and 'Italian' when I see Natalia. But all your comments made me think about my own history. My grandpa's parents had actually immigrated here from Eastern Europe where the name Nadia came from; the country of Hungary to be exact. And although I don't really feel close to that part of my history, it is still a part of me, and Nadia might bring that Old World Charm back to our family.

Adelaide is my ultimate favorite girl's name and Nadia is my husband's. Do you think Addie and Nadia flow better as a sib set than Addie/Talia? My DH and I never did come up with a middle name choice for Nadia, but if I am really considering it as a top choice now, does anyone have suggestions???? (If we were to use Natalia, Clarice would be the mn choice.)

oh, how sweet little {{Gabriel Patrick, Adelaide Susana, Tobiah Nicholas & Nadia Pearle}} would be!

Adelaide is lovely, too! I was thinking that Addie could be a nn for Nadia, too, so I think Adelaide and Natalia/Addie and Talia would work better than Addie and Nadia would, but both would be lovely.

I've always been torn about MNs for Nadia, but I have liked Nadia Scarlett, Nadia Elisabeth, and Nadia Caroline in the past.

    What about:

    Nadia Evangeline
    Nadia Felicity
    Nadia Juliet
    Nadia Penelope
    Nadia Daphne
    Nadia Hazel
    Nadia Gwendolyn

BTW, I think Nadia "Mack n Ernie" sounds fine. Pretty adorable, actually.

If you choose Nadia then this may suit you (a small change from Adelaide to Adelina)

Combo of Nadia Adelina I like the way that Adelina makes Nadia feel softer and more feminine

I would also think Adelina as a first name would bring back the Eastern European feel to the family.

I know of a Lisa Natalia but that is dated now but Elisabeth Natalia and Nadia Elisabeth sound good together too.

    awww, thanks <3

Adelina...hmm. That's one that has never been on my radar before, Rollo. I can completely see the Eastern European touch that that would bring. (As you can see, we are still working on our names even after my last thread )
