    First Communicants

I went to a First Communion Mass the other day, and there was a list of the First Communicants. Being a name nerd, I brought the list home and am posting it on here with my thoughts:

Keenan - love this and Keegan, glad to see someone using it!
Makayla - how many ways can you spell this?
Veronica - awesome name with great nn possibilities
    Shay - poor child
Elizabeth - I've known too many Elizabeths to analyze this anymore
    Jordan - boy or girl?
    Olivia - eh
Hunter - go out and kill me some birds
Michael (2) - traditional, thank goodness
Chandler (2)- what? This is popular?
    Leonardo - DiCaprio
Zachary - normal yet with a cool letter in the front
    John - normal
    Diana - Princess
    Alexander - the Great
Gianna - the not-so-great girl who had a locker by me freshman year of high school
Emily - I don't care how popular it is, it's still awesome
    Brandon - eh
    Peter - normal
Addison - what is the appeal of naming your daughter something with "son" in it?
Anasofia - pretty, although I prefer Annamaria
    Juan - he's Spanish
Paula - my 50-year-old next door neighbor
    Matthew - normal
    Camila - I wish I hadn't named a character this charming name
Antonio - Benderez or however you spell that actor's name
    Paige - eh
Ieva - what nationality is she and how do you pronounce that?
Brooklynn - I didn't realize people were actually using this
Dominic - always liked this name
    Tristan - solid and English
Andrew - normal, but with the unappealing "ew"
Megan - Never really liked this; sounds kind of masculine
    Stephanie - dated
Addyson - poor kid going to be spelling her name all the time
    Vianka - um...weird?
Madison (2) - again with the "son", but now you add "mad" to the mix
    Ethan - not bad
Gabriel - traditional yet somewhat unique
    Sean - Irishman
Madeline - the children's book series
Jonathan - still as traditional and rational as John
Valeria - "ria" makes me think of diarrhea
    Sofia - better than Sophie
    Mia - Hamm
    Josefina - the American Girl
Victoria - I like this, but not all that much
Sophia - ah, spelled the normal way.
Hanna - why no final "h"?
Luisa - again will be spelling out her name
Nathan - like Gabriel, traditional but not overused
Jacquline - a lot of name
    Nikola - "REE-COLLLA"

What do you guys think of them? Keep in mind these are 7-8 year olds, not babies.

Yet more First Communicants at a different parish:

Dantia - is this DAN-sha or DAN-tee-a or something else?
Sophia (2) - is still pretty good
Christopher (3) - I've always liked this, but not the nn Chris
Samuel - eh. Never really liked this one
Michael - I think I don't like the "el" sound
Ana - I'd rather it be part of something - Annamaria, Rosanna...
Benjamin - Not bad...the "j" makes it cooler
Kathryn - would rather it be spelled Katherine
Mateo - I have a bad image of this name, due to one of my sister's classmates
Alex - will spend his entire life explaining he's not Alexander...or Alexandra, if it's a girl
Thomas - prefer a Timmy to a Tommy
Patrick - I rather like the "rick" sound, and this is a normal way to get it
Caitlyn - how many ways can you spell this?
Nolan - I only hear the surname Dolan
Evan - if only my eyes weren't trained to see "Eva" at the beginning
    Ava - Prefer Eva
Harrison - I have this image of a geeky kid with this name
Jona - Joan of Arc comes to mind, so long as it's pronounced JO-na
Breany - a failed combo of Bri and Annie
Erika - would prefer Erica, or better still, Eric on a boy

    So WDYT of this set?

I know quite a few Nolans and it's a family name for me, I've never heard Dolan though. I think AnaSofia is beautiful, are you around a large Italian community? With names like Valeria, Dominic, Matteo, AnaSofia, Leonardo, Josefina, Gianna, Antonio, Luisa it seems like you must be, that or hispanic. I think there are a lot of lovely names on the list!
Josephine Athénaïs - Josephine Ivy - Myriam Athénaïs - Vivienne Josephine
Athena Beatrice - Beatrice Cecile - Eleanor Anne-Sophie -Myriam Beatrice - Meredith Elizabeth
    Ambrose Aristide - Ulysses Aristide

Girls: Bérangère, Bérénice, Honorine, Mazarine Boys: Augustin, Emeric, Hugo, Lambert, Lucien, Maxence, Yves

@thetxbelle The first parish was in a hispanic region, so that would be where names like Anasofia came from.

Yet another set (the last one, I think):

Andrew (2) - again, the "ew" is unappealing
Jack - short and strong, with good (Jack Dawson ) and bad (Jack the Ripper) connotations
Mia - Hamm, as mentioned before
    Tristan - solid and English
Haylie - another one of those trendee, how-many-ways...
Julia - I rather like this; old-fashioned yet fun
Kira - go ahead and spell it Keira. Everyone else will.
Margaret - not bad, but I find I don't like the letter "g."
    Katelyn - see Haylie
Meghan - I never liked this name; it sounds somewhat masculine
Heather - the name of three middle-aged people I know, hard to imagine it on a little girl
    Kaylee - see Haylie
Eva - really like this one. It has a nice ring to it.
Michael - again, don't like "el"
Delaney - I get it's an Irish surname, but it sounds a little flimsy to by a boy's name
Christian - sounds solid like Tristan, but I don't tend to like word names
Emalie - a poor Emily who will forever be spelling her name.
Jordan - are you a boy or girl? I hope a boy.
Caroline - I like this, probably due to the fact I like "line" names.
Olivia - I see the prettiness today, no wonder it's popular

    What are your opinions?

Jordan - I'm a Jordanna. Jordan is easier to manage.
    Olivia - Pretty, but popular.
Leonardo - Like it, but prefer Leon.
Zachary - Like it, but prefer Zacharias or Zebulon. Zachary's the only one of those my husband would let me use though so maybe that's what happened to this mom!
John - A classic, but I will always like Jonathan more.
Diana - Have known nice girls by this name, but I dislike the name.
    Alexander - Love this name.

    Camila - Prefer Camellia
    Antonio - Prefer Antoine
Dominic - On our boys list.
Tristan - Reminds me of Triscuit, if not for that I think I'd like it.
Andrew - Another, eviller ex-boyfriend. Alexander and Alasdair and Antoine are nice though.
Megan - I have always liked this. I wish my husband and I could agree on how it's pronounced.
    Stephanie - Dislike.
    Addyson - Hate
    Madison (2) - Hate
Ethan - Yuck but less yuck than Madison and Addison.
    Gabriel - Lovely
    Sean - Dated
    Madeline - Prefer Madeleine
Jonathan - Lovely, on our list.
    Valeria - I love this.
Sofia - Sofia/Sophia are too popular for me
    Mia - Dislike
Josefina - Love, and love Josephine too
Sophia - Boring but not ugly. Will date as badly as Amanda did to the '80s.

Stripedsocks, am intrigued! Would you pronounce the endings the same, or as we would in UK: Jac-lin, Caro-line, Emma-leen?
