Where I come from in the South, girls' names tend to be a family surname: Bentley, Camden, Peyton, Lauck, Shelton, Brigham, Alston, Tyler, Blakely, Linley, etc. These are sometimes double-barrelled with Anne, Mae, Mary, etc: Anne Waverly, Anne Hampton, Mae Monroe (and then there are the more regular double names like Mary Catherine, Marybeth, Billie Anne, or Carrie Frances). I would suggest digging into your family tree (and your husband's!) for names you like!

Then there are a few feminizations of male names: Ryanne, Evanne (prn. just like Evan), Laine...

Other names that evoke the South for me: Magnolia, Azalea, Camellia, Bay, Flannery (love-was a family surname of hers!), Virginia, Carolina, Georgia, Savannah, August and Augusta, Osceola, Nola, Summer, Scarlett off the top of my head

I have met a few ladies named Paralee/Paralie. Also, Bobbie-Jo comes to mind.

I'm a southerner and the names you often find for girls are family last names used as first names, double names, and traditionally southern-style names.

    Bailey
    Miller
    Lewis
    Birch
    Elliott

    Anne Mason
    Annabelle

I live in the South, and agree with what has been mentioned in previous posts. It is common for girls to have a surname. Double names are also very popular.

Some surnames as a double name that I have heard:
    Mary Turner
    Mary Wells
    Mary Scott
    Ann Michael
    Mary Michael
    Anna Scott
    Mary Martin
    Mae Martin
    Jane Avery
    Mary Loyd
    Mary Sutton

Other surnames I have heard used on girls as first names:
    Mcall
    Smith
    Mckamy
    Blakely
    Brighton
    Ramsey

IMO these names are Southern aslo:
    Camille
    Charlotte
    Caroline/Mary Caroline
    Mary Claire
    Virginia
    Mary Katherine/Anna Katherine
    Louise/Mary Louise/Ann Louise
    Eleanor
    Mae

    Hope that helps!

Some double names of students of mine here in northwest Florida: Mary Alice, Mary Josephine, Sarah Grace. Other names are Peyton, Laine, Roberta, Amelia, Sydney, Bailey, Fitzpatrick, Alexandria, Justica, Amee, Alyssa, Courtney....Besides the ubiquitous Brittanys, Brittnis, Britneys, and a zillion Jessicas. Then there are Debra, Stephanie, Justice, Faith, Autumn, Charity, Chastity.

I grew up in the South and some double names that I recall are Sarah Jane, Georgia Grace, and Mary Alice. I knew quite a few girls with surnames as first names, including Harper, Landrum, Ellis, Sheldon, and Carlisle. Some frilly names I've heard are Susannah, Virginia, Cornelia nn Neely, and Savannah (I really dislike this one for some reason).
    Current favorites:
Girls: Louisa Jane, Caroline Emma, Celia Rose, Lucy Adelaide/Beatrice

Boys: Henry, Nathaniel/Nathan, Avi, Elias, Asher

Name-obsessed twenty-something in the US. No kids right now, but will be TTC in a few years...it's fun to think of the possibilities in the meantime!
