    Aurora, Arrow, Ace... ?

I'm in the planning stages of a story aimed at teens. The main character will be a 13-year-old girl, who lives in a fantasy land. The land is divided into two communities, who are at war. The "mountain" community and the "valley" community (they will have names eventually). The 'mountain' community, where my main characters family live, will be Nordic inspired. It is so high up in the mountains that it is winter all year round. It will be a quirky mixture of the future mixed with the past, so I want unusual, futuristic names, that also sound somewhat Nordic/Scandinavian.

The family surname is Toftback, which literally means village on a hill. For a long time, my favourite name for her has been Arrow. Arrow Toftback sounds like a strong name, very independent and strong like she will need to be to. This girl will be adventurous, probably mischievous and getting into lots of trouble through her curiosity, but definitely strong and wise beyond her years. She needs a name to match that.

Like Harry Potter, I see the name of this book being this characters name, so I want it to be memorable.

But as I tried to think up some sibling names for her, I came across the name Aurora, and thought this fit more stylistically (As in, the Aurora Borealis). I love that her name would make sense as Aurora Toftback, but is it too girly/cutesy? Its also becoming quite popular, and I kind of wanted to give everyone names you wouldnt normally hear.

I also like Ace as a brother (I want them all to have 'A' names)

Suggestions? Opinions on Arrow vs Aurora?

How about Aurora nn Arrow? Not a big stretch, I don't think.

I love both the names, but I think Arrow is abit more distinctive then Aurora and it suits the fantasy element of the story. The nn idea is good too, or maybe you could name a female family member Aurora instead?

    Hope this is helpful!

Aurora is the princess to me, so I don't think it'd be as distinct as Arrow.

Sounds like a really fun story--just the sort I'd read! I definitely think her name should be Arrow; I think if you go with Aurora you'll have too much Disney-princess-vibe that may color readers' opinions. A sibling could definitely be Aurora, and I think the option of her name being Aurora and Arrow being her nickname makes sense.

And if you publish this, I'm so buying it. *grins*
Hi there. My pen name is Diana (or akky, whichever you prefer).
I'm here to find names for characters, not babies, though I do love working with kids.
