    Roxy without Roxanne?

    Well hello!

Do you super smart namers know of a way to get to the nickname Roxy without using the name Roxanne?

While I don't mind Roxanne, she seems slightly dated and would love a more modern alternative in order to use the fun and bold Roxy/Roxie!

Would Romilly nn Roxy work? What about Beatrix?

I don't really think Beatrix or Romilly really work to get to Roxy. It just doesn't really make any sense to me, and I think it would confuse people. I really like Roxana (it seems a lot less dated than Roxanne to me) and Rosanna or Oxana might work, but Roxanne/Roxana is the most logical.

I want to add that I do not find Roxanne dated, but I much prefer the Roxane spelling because that is the most legit to me. I also adore Roxana. There is the Eastern European form of Roksana, and as I have already suggested, there is the Russian female name of Roxelana. I don't think nns are always suppose to make sense, but Roxy is a bit of a stretch from Romilly and Beatrix.

Thanks for the input! If we went with a version of Roxanne, it would definitely be this version. We have an Anne in the family we could honor by doing so, and the -ana or -ane version actually seem less legit to me. This is probably because out of all the Anne/Anne/Anna/Ana names, Anne is the most appealing to me, and definitely because of the The Police song, Roxanne (where the protagonist was named after a character in Cyrano de Bergerac - so definite history to the name which makes it "legit").

I think we would consider just Roxy/Roxie as first name by herself - but as many of you may know, we are suckers for a good nn which makes this slightly less appealing.

Interesting how everyones perception of the same name changes - but I guess that's why we are all here on Nameberry in the first place, to seek out these varying opinions!

Well, if it has family significance....then you should use that spelling

But the character in Cyrano de Bergerac was spelled Roxane

I like Roxy on its own. It stands as good as a Riley or Bailey.

Roxelane or Roxelana would work as alternatives but I dont think Romily makes any sense, personally I dont think Beatrix makes a lot of sense either but I know a lot of Berries are ok with nn's that arent that similar to the given name.
