You should also take into account that we live in Los Angeles. Every kid their the elementary school is gonna have a funky and "unique" name so teasing for namesake is not really big. I grew up in the area and had a VERY easy name to make fun of that went virtually unnoticed by bullies. But then again my husband and I didn't have problems with bullying growing up so maybe It's naive of me to think my child wont have that problem either...

Hmm you know it's funny I don't really love Pokemon all that much I just remember loving it as a
Child. You all probably think I'm some kid of crazy anime weirdo haha I'm not I'm just having fun with it. I still got about 7 months to go so I'm just bouncing whatever ideas around that pop into my head. Sorry I was so condescending before, blame it on the hormones...and the morning sickness.

sugarfoot, I don't think your crazy. I know you'll pick a perfectly suitable fun and interesting name like you want and if it has a hint of pokemon, I don't think would be as bad as people are making it out to be. Of course you wouldn't pick something with Vile in it or Hauter, I think that was understood when you said that your favorite was Scyther. If I met a Rhydon, I wouldn't bat an eyelash. I do think luckykate was being way too harsh on her first post, even I noticed that and was like woah! just like you. Don't feel bad for calling her out on it, some people need to be more sensitive to others.

I think it's utterly ridiculous, so be honest.
I'm 19, and my younger brothers are still into pokemon, and were seriously obsessed with it this past year. I remember growing up watching pokemon and collecting cards. And so do most of the people my age.
If you name your child after a pokemon EVERYONE who grew up with a TV will be well aware of it, and likely find it ridiculous.
Who would take an adult named Vileploom seriously? Or Ditto?
Only ones that are semi-workable are Seadra, Nidorine, Onix, Chansey and maybe Dratini if you really push it.
Seadra's totally fine to me because it's so much like Phaedra and Sandra. Chansey is out because it's like Chauncey.
Eevee is fine as well, but spell it Evee, or just use Eve or Ivy like another poster said.
Just because you and your husband are playful and out there doesn't mean that your kids necessarily will be. My cousin is beyond a perfect example of that: I have one who's very nerdy like, and her dad was one of the most popular guys in the neighbourhood/school etc, and her mother comes from a notable family. My other one is a bit on the nerdy side too, and her mother is SO nothing near that, and neither is her dad, OR brother.
Names stick with your child for life and are their pleasure or burden to bear. Don't pick a name just because you like grasping at straws, or find it cute to do something crazy and out-there.2O - Aries - Slytherin - Daycare Assistant Teacher
