    Red face Eros!!??

I was thinking of the name Eros....I know it's a bit of a heavy name but me and bf just love everything about it!!!

It has meaning to me and my bf also:

It's a Greek name- my bf Noah comes from a very Greek family
It's a Greek Mythological name- I love all of the myths about Cupid/Eros!
Eros/Cupid in the myths is a Greek God of love and the son of Aphrodite/Venus
    It's a historical name
It reminds us of archery- which we are passionate about
We think it could age fairly well
Bf and I BOTH like it!! (we don't agree on most boy names)
It sounds good with bf's last name
It's a unique name- so he wouldn't be the one of many Jacobs, Liams or Tylers or even Baileys (which is actually a bit popular for boys in our neighborhood)

Do you think all of our reasons can out weight the bad things about Eros (whatever they are)???

Also what was/is your honest first impression of Eros???

Thank ya! ~ Amanda & Noah

There was a singer with that name, I heard him on a trio to europe and it sounded really good. Here is his wiki link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eros_Ramazzotti

I love Eros because it sounds both strong and soft which is what I prefer for boy names

Do a quick google search on the word, and then really think about it.

Also type in eros definition, this is what you'll pull up straight on google with no digging or even clicking a link.

    e·ros/ˈeräs/
The god of love, son of Aphrodite.
    Sexual love or desire.

I just can't picture giving this name to a child.

I believe that someone on this site has the name Eros. Maybe you could find her and ask how she feels about the name.

I know this sounds oh so strange but every time I look at this thread all I can think of is the Greek food, Yiros, this makes it unlikable for me, although I love Greek food. Safe to say I'm not exactly a fan of this as a name and the definition meogan wrote above worries me... no little boy wants a name that means that!
But after all it's up to you, only you can decide whats best, we can only give opinions
    Good Luck!

Eros means desire, passion, intimate love. The word erotic comes from Eros
Still doesn't bother me, no more than Desiree bothers me

This does bother me. 'Intimate love' means romantic or sexual love. Eros means specifically this kind of love, not familial love or love between friends or any other kind of love. I don't think it's an appropriate name for a child, not to mention how high the teasing potential would be.

I do appreciate your reasons and the meaning Eros has to you, but I'm afraid they don't weigh out the negatives, imo.

Here are some suggestions, if you'd like them.

    Names that sound similar:
    Eero
    Emrys
    Enzo
    Errol
    Eryx
    Ezra

Greek boys names (I think these are all Greek...):
    Aris or Aristotle
    Darius
    Hermes
    Kostas
    Leander
    Marios
    Nikos
    Orion
    Ozias
    Spiro
    Stavros
    Thaddeus
    Theodore

    Alternatively, Archer.

How about Ares? The Greek god of war so it has the Greek connection. I love the name Ares. I think Eros is fine. I never consider a name's meaning so it's meaning doesn't bother me. I just consider connotations which I don't think is a problem Eros-most people will just think it's an unusual name. Sex-crazed boys are commonly called Romeo's, not Eros.
