My hubby doesn't like my old-fashioned tastes either. He likes "normal" names. Translation: popular. Since my name is rarely heard, I do like the idea of our child being one of many in his/her class. I like having an uncommon name.
Your husband's taste isn't too bad. Could you convince him to use Nathaniel? nn can still be Nate, if he likes that. Or a longer Rose name? Rosalie, Rosemary/marie, Rosalind/Rosalyn/Roselyn, etc.
Here are some names to consider:
Sabella, Rosabella, Arabella, Isabetta, Elisabetta, Primrose?
Annabelle/bella, Annemarie, Annalie/Annalee, Anastasia, Annika, Anais?
Adrianna or Arianna? Deanna?
Leta
Lila
Sylvia/Sylvie, Silver?
Dahlia, Iris, Ivy, Violet, Ruby, Scarlett
Gemma
Clarice - it's a smoosh of Clare and Reese
Asher, Archer, Angus, Orson, Omri, Eli, Alaric, Frederick, Thomas, Augustin, Silas, Sullivan, Sterling, Stellan, Sebastian, Milo?Last edited by niteowl13; April 16th, 2012 at 02:35 PM. Reason: spelling error

Haha, yes, the "normal" (as in Top 20) names. I have a "normal" name for our generation (Dh does not), and I am with you - it's best not to be one of many in a classroom (especially when your last initial is "P" lol!).
I think I am really going to give Nathaniel a try for the boy names... I didn't originally envision it, but it's a good meeting in the middle for us.
I love the simplicity of Rose, but Rosalie and Rosemarie are great (Rosemary is "taken" in the fam).
Elisabetta is one I rarely hear... very pretty! I wonder what his reaction would be.
Annika - love this one instead of Anne!
Sylvia/Sylvie and Dahlia are also great ones that hasn't yet been pitched to Dh.
Adding more to the list... this is so helpful!

Our last name starts with a P as well, it's 2 syllables, French, but doesn't really sound it. We are expecting our third boy in 8 weeks and can't agree, either. DH likes sounds I don't (-oy mostly), or names that I feel are for old men.
Not sure how helpful my suggestions will be, but thought I'd send them anyway.
For girls: I like the suggestion of Natalie, I think that's such a pretty name. I also like Reese and Olivia. Rosalie may start to get popular because of the Twilight series, but it's a nice name.
For boys: Our boys names' are Wyatt and Cole, it either interests you. How about Ethan, Evan, Benjamin, Noah, Bennett, Owen?
Good luck deciding!

Congrats on your upcoming due date!
I really like both Wyatt and Cole - great choices (Dh nixed Cole already. These husbands!
). Love Ethan (going to add that to the list) and Bennett/Benjamin. We actually both love Benjamin, but in the past year, two Ben's were born in our family AND a Natalie became our goddaughter. Perhaps I should have listed all the taken family names too, but that seemed like an overwhelming post.
I hear you on Rosalie - I haven't read the series. It's technically a family name for us (that is usable as it goes two generations back), but people may think we're Twilight fans instead.

Thanks! Yeah, I don't think our styles are always vastly different, but our approaches are (for example, I love Rebecca but have 3 reasons it really won't work for us - it's my aunt's name who I have no intention of naming a baby after, and I have a semi-traumatic history with two different Rebeccas/Becs in the past. He just doesn't approach names like that... he loves the sound of Rebecca and doesn't love the sound of Susannah, the end lol. We'll find a good name we agree on at some point! :
).

I love your taste. Here are my thoughts:
Regarding your husbands choices, what about Isobel over Isabella? To me, (sorry sorry don´t want to offend anyone, taste is personal) Isobel/Isabel is a beautiful medieval name with rich history and Isabella is em au courant and not in a good way. Waaay too much.
Some other ideas you might like:
Katherine-- beautiful classic Catholic name. Feminine and respectable.
Love your idea for Susannah
Rosalie
Eulalie
Irene
Christine
Cecilia
Laura
Mary
Marion
For boys,
gosh I can´t see your list now or remember but going by your taste
John
Daniel
James
I looove Patrick and personally never get this whole teasing meme? Who gets teased about their name?
Jasper
Christopher
Peter
William
Richard
Leonard
Leopold (ok I am in Belgium)
Joseph
good luck!!
