I think Bosco is the only usable name on your list. There must be other saint names that aren't over-done, like the Johns and Marys you mentioned, but that are known and usable in real life. If you absolutely love your list - and I'm all for using a name you love! - why not use one in the middle, and find something a tad more universally known for the first spot? Such as: Alaric, Alban, Ambrose, Cassian, Dallan, Fabian etc...Or use a Saint's name that has special meaning to you/your family.

Bosco is a chocolate syrup. It has been around since the 1920s I think, and it is very well known in the Northeast. I wouldn't consider this a usable name because of the brand connection.

I think the fact that they are saints names (hadn´t heard of them all) makes them totally ok. Unusual saints names can be really fine choices, although they may startle the illiterate. Go for it!! Follow your heart.

Bosco Sticks are a kind of food in school cafeterias here in the US, I don't know if that would be a problem. I think that many of your choices are pretty out there, but nicknames could make them more usable.

Sidonius is interesting. I wouldn't use Pastor, Januarius seems unwearable, Bosco reminds me of a dog name. Filan could be interesting, and Finn could be a more approachable nickname. I'd keep searching for something a bit more wearable though.

I agree with this. It's the only name I like, and I think it's pretty groovy too.

If you'd be open to other saint names, i would be happy to come back and suggest some, but I don't want to have a long list of saints names on here if you don't want them ^_^
    Dantea..

I would for sure be open to more saints name (boys and girls)... I grew up with a SUPER common name and I always hated it! So i really want my kids to have really different names.. maybe with a more normal nickname... and i will give regular family names for the middle!

    What do you suggest?

    Some unusual saints' names:

Finnian - Finn is a super usable NN as well
    Jarlath
Aidan - Okay not that unusual but a real saint's name when spelt this way.
    Crispin
    Thaddeus
    Malachy - pronounced mal-ah-kee
    Arcadius
Archelaus - Archie via a nicer way than Archibald.
Elvis or Celtic spelling Ailbhe, yes there was a St. Elvis
    Constantine
    Magnus
    Conrad
    Cyrus
    Ambrose

I would say Finnian, Cyrus, and Thaddeus were my favourites. Malachi is also in the Bible, but pronounced mal-ah-kai. I slightly prefer Malachi to Malachy, just enough to keep it out of my top three.

I would consider these usable without being common.

I love your naming style! My kiddos each have a saints name and a family name, so I understand the significance to you and your DH.

From your list I like Bosco the best (it is on our list if #4 is a boy). What do you think of these:

    Augustine
    Ambrose
    Kilian
    Quentin
    Blaise
    Linus (a Pope)
Roch (a more "updated" version of the animal loving St. Francis)
Xavier (probably too common for you)
    Newman
    Basil
    Remy
