When everyone is in their own home, in their city, all my aunts and my mom are able to keep everyone's name straight. When we all get together though, all the youngest siblings get called by my mom's name (she's the youngest of her sisters) and the youngest cousin in each family (all girls) have their names mixed up too. Those of us "fortunate" enough to be the oldest in the family were immune to name switches for the longest time... until the cousins started having children of their own. Now I get called "Amanda" -my older cousin's 11 year old daughter's name!

I think that it's common for people to confuse people's names. I have a hard time with a family down the road who have a Krista and a Kristy... it's hard to remember names that are unfamiliar or new to you. But eventually people get it, when they know it's important to you and your daughter -and it's obvious that your Mom does since she keeps correcting herself! Would it help her if she knew is was originally a nn for Elisabeth? That's a common name she's sure to have heard hundreds of times.

I get called Jenny and Ginny all the time instead of Jeanni. As long as she's not doing it on purpose, I say just gently correct her and she'll get it eventually.

My SIL's daughter is named Rilynn, but FIL has called her 'Raylin' since the day she was born. And my Grandma calls my son Lincoln. It seems pretty common to me! lol.

    EDIT:
Oh, and I always call my nephew the wrong name. His name is Ian, but I call him Evan. Never fails. I'll repeat to myself Ian, Ian, Ian. The minute he walks through the door I'm like "Hi, Evan! Crap, I mean Ian!" haha
