I prefer it as a nickname. Josie is cutsy and kind of boring. I'd pair it with something longer and classic so she could have something to fall back on. Ideas
Josie Abigail
Josie Bianca
Josie Cecilia
Josie Diana
Josie Emmeline
Josie Francesca
Josie Gertrude
Josie Hermione
Josie Irina
Josie Katherine
Josie Lucia
Josie Mirabel
Josie Natalia
Josie Olivia
Josie Penelope

I, too, prefer it as a nn. I know a Josie but it's short for Josephine. Just Josie seems a bit childish to me. I think it could be short for Jocelyn or Josiane or Josepha, too... In general, I like Posey, Sephie, Sophie, and even Poppy better than Josie, personally, too.
I like the pp's suggestion of Josie Olivia... what about:
Josie Caroline
Josie Juliet
Josie June
Josie Annabel
Josie Felicity
Josie Penelope
Josie BeatrixAshley

I also prefer it as a NN. Would be hard to grow into Josie as an adult.

I don't think Josie is as "childish" as other "nicknames", I can see it working just fine on an adult.
16-year-old, not-so-average teenage boy with an obsession for baby names and animals. That's me!
