Help! Expecting twins and can't agree.

    Help!*

My husband and I had talked about having a second baby for a little over a year before we started trying. And once we started, boy did it happen fast. And then, surprise! Twins! We've been so busy scrambling around, getting ready to go from 1 kid to 3, and moving to the 'burbs, that we haven't had any time to think about names. Now here we are, less than two months from having twins, completely unprepared to name them. Help!*

We have a handsome little guy named August. He goes by August and Gus pretty evenly. His name fits him so well and we both love it, but deciding on it was, well, interesting.*

When I was pregnant with August, we learned, somewhat surprisingly, that we have very different taste in names. I love classic, timeless and "traditional" names like William, Thomas and Philip. My husband, on the other hand, leans towards more "modern" names like Miller, Dashiell, Ronan, and Westley. To me, popularity is a nonfactor. To my husband, it's a major factor. We agreed on August literally the night before I went into labor, and neither of us were thrilled with it. It worked out well in the end and I can't imagine August being named anything but August. But I'd really like to avoid going through that again.

But, that will be easier said than done. Because we're having twins and we're both against the idea of finding out the sexes, we need four (technically eight) names that we agree on. Right now, that seems impossible.*

Please help us by suggesting names that you think bridge the gap between my "traditional" and his "modern", and that go well with big brother August.*

    Thank you so much!*

    Jeremy
    Cole
    Theodore
    Ambrose
    Anthony
    Andrew/Drew

    Alexandria

August is great! Also, I don't think your husband's name taste is modern - Dashiell is certainly not modern - but he does favor the surnames. Those could be a good option for you guys!

Archer - Classic surname with a vintage nickname, Archie, for you.
Bingham - More for your husband, but think about this with August. Are you swooning?
Beckett - A modern surname with immense historical appeal for you.
Clay - It feels new with its nature-y vibe, but it's really pretty old-man chic.
Davis - A surname spin on classic David.
Emmett - All I can say is as old as this name is, it's hot about now!
Everett - A little more unusual today, but equally as charming, especially with Ev and Rhett as nickname options.
Holden - It's got a modern appeal but it's also got a nice literary backbone that fits with August's style.
Jasper - Jazzy and chic, handsome and playful, but totally vintage.
Leon - A handsome, old-man spin on name-of-the-moment Leo, this one has style.
Lennox - It feels historical, but it's got that new-age surname feel and a powerful nickname, Knox.
Milo - Easily mistaken as a new name because of that hot ending, this one is classic through and through.
Miles - Go one step further in the vintage set and use Miles with Milo as a nickname.
Orson - Totally uncommon name with literary appeal, spell it Orson or Orsen. You could even call him Bear (check the meaning!).
Philip - This one is all in the nickname, sprightly Pip. Imagine it now: Gus and Pip. Cool, right?
Quentin - Or Quintin. Quinn is hot for both genders, but Quentin feels a little older. Equally chic. Totally handsome.
Russell - A bit fusty, but how neat are Russ and the classic Rusty as nicknames? Too close to Gus? Maybe...
Silas - More your classic taste, but Si is fun and fresh.

Like any of those for boys? I won't even pick my favorites.

For girls, I'll just list some options:

    Colette - Coco, Lettie
    Cecily - Cece, Celie
    Della - Del, Dee
    Eveline - Eve, Evie
Estella - Essa, Estelle, Stella, Elle, Star
    Emery - Em, Emmy
    Faye
    Gwendolen - Gwen, Wendy, Dolly
    Georgia - Georgie, Gigi, Gia
    Imogen - Gen, Mo, Immy
    Juliet - Jules, Jet, Julie
Jessamine - Jess, Jessie, Jessa, Sam, Ami, Mini
    Katherine - Kit, Kat, Kate
    Louisa - Lou, Lula, Lulu
Lucille - Lulu, Lucie, Cici, Cissy, Celie
    Olive - Liv, Livy
    Pippa - Pippi, Pip
    Prudence - Prue
    Phoebe - Bee
    Ramona - Romy, Roma, Mona
    Susannah - Sosie, Sanna, Sunny
    Tamsin - Zinny, Tee

Sometimes you can make a vintage name with a spunky nickname. Try these out on your husband. Good luck!

Since your having twins this time, have you thought about allowing you to name one baby and your husband to name the other? For people with different tastes, sometimes that's easier than finding names you agree on.

For twins I always think it's cute when the names match up somehow, like Lily and Rose or Everett and Emmett.
Charlotte and Annette would be super cute. Aloutte would work too.

I am not good with boys names, so I have no suggestions for those.
