I think Pasquale would be awesome. That was my grandfather's original name too. It got changed to Patsy when he was 2 years old I believe. I do not think you need to keep up a theme, and that Pasquale and Galileo would be wonderful together!

I think we finally found a nice compromise. We are seriously considering the name "Jove" as the front-runner. Best of both worlds I think. Celestial, but not too far "out there."

Thoughts? Also, would you give a mn to Jove? My older son doesn't have one and neither my husband or I have one.

Jove is cute! I think that what name you pick for #2 can actually change people's perception on your 1st. For me, naming your 2nd Jupiter would almost cheapen the name Galileo. However, I'm finding it hard to articulate why... Pairing Galileo with Jupiter seems like you are simply going with a celestial theme, while Galileo and Jove sounds like two strong names that you put a lot of thought into.

I love the name Galileo, btw! My husband is a space physicist, so we have thrown the idea around, but are not gutsy enough to use it! We did however use Newton as the mn for our son

I am very much a fan of Orion (one of my tops names is Juneau Orion), and I thought I was practically alone in it's love! I don't think it's too popular at all, especially since the only place I've seen it is on here (and of course in astronomy class). I think it has plenty meaning to it, I mean he was a great greek hunter and all, but if you aren't really feeling it, you aren't. I think Jupiter is a little out there, or maybe I just don't like it so my mind is making me think that. Normally I'm a huge fan of mythological names, although admittedly I much prefer greek. I think Jove is cool, though. It's not really my style, but I can definitely see the appeal. Best of luck~

Can I respectfully say that I think Jove is very far out? By Jove the expression is one of surprise and I am sure that it would be very annoying to have a name that is part of a phrase like that. I researched Jove and it comes from the Latin Jovis which means Jupiter. If you are set on Jove I would name the child Jovis with the nickname of Joe.

A middle name for Jovis would be Archibald combo of Jovis Archibald.

I would use Orion if I were you, it's not that popular. Jupiter seems too out there for me. I love Orion and Galileo together!

I actually like the ideas and theme your using, very cute, and unique, but not too crazy. I personally prefer Orion to Jupiter, solely because Jupiter sounds a little girly in my opinion. But I think either would be a nice choice. I also really like Aries and Newton (nn Newt)

I really like Jupiter, but not so much with Galileo...
and I agree that Jove seems a perfect compromise! Galileo and Jove is just wonderful! (and I am a physicist!)

I wouldn't give him a middle name. As the rest of you don't have one, it may send the message that his first name wasn't good enough by itself. And with a name like Jove this is absolutely not the case! (... although Jove daVinci would be very cool ...)

    Good luck!

I like Orion better. What is a troll? I've seen a few people write about that, but I don't know what it means.

Yes it's way too out there. I don't mind Gallileo b/c at least it was an actual person's name. But constellations, planets...I'm sorry but this is a little person who will have to one day introduce himself to girls and interview for jobs. And all a name that is way too out there will do for him is make kids pick on him, adults snicker behind his back and make his life so much harder than it has to be. I don't mean to be negative but this situation sounds like it needs some tough love. I got picked on ALL THE TIME as a kid for my name and it was just a very old-fashioned girl's name -- nowhere near as "out there" as you are suggesting. Yet I still bear HUGE emotional scars from that early bullying. It shaped my self-esteem in fundamental ways. Why send your kid out into a world with a giant target on his back?

And to be completely honest, when I hear kids with "out there" names, I really wonder what the parents' objective were: to set their child on a happy, emotionally healthy course in life or, well, show off.
