Matthew? Murray? M name -help!!!
Hello Nameberries! I posted a couple of months ago -- expecting baby #2 in mid-May (brother to Sally Rose) -- we are going with an "M" name in memory of my mom, Marilyn. When I posted back in December, I was stuck between Max and Matthew.. you were all so helpful! I was rooting for Max (or Mack/Mac), but my husband is not on board... for a while we were going to go with Matthew, but I'm still not feeling 100%. The problem is, I do like Matthew: it's strong, classic, sensible -but so very ordinary.... should we go for it anyway? I don't want to choose an inferior name just because it's NOT Matthew. Right now we like Murray... in fact, it grows on me more and more everyday. I like it because it's sweet and not very popular, but I'm also wondering if Matthew is a better name in the long-run (even though it's ordinary).... thoughts? suggestions? What are some of your favorite M names??

Hmmm... well. I'm not big on surname names, and Murray seems to remind me of Meg Murry from "A Wrinkle in Time." I'm sorry I prefer Matthew. However, if you are worried about ordinariness, what about Matthias or Matteo? I love those names. Other M names I adore...
Maxwell
Miles
Malcolm *you could use nn Mac
*
Marco
Micah

Matthew has never been a favourite name of mine and I'm not sure why. There's nothing wrong with this Biblical classic but I find it overused and ordinary. Sorry but I don't really care for Murray. Sally Rose has a vintage feel so here are some other suggestions for "M" names.

I love Matthew and Murray! I would probably just use Matthew Murray or Murray Matthew, lol. I love the alliteration and I wouldn't want to give either name up! I love the classic Matthew with the more classic Sally Rose... I think Murray has a more modern feeling that doesn't flow as well with Sally. I really love Max/Maxwell, too bad that didn't work out!
What about:
Micah
Morgan
Marcus
Miller
Mercer
Magnus
Mackenzie (largely gone to the girls, I'm afraid, but I've only ever met boy Mackenzies and I think Mac, Max, or even Ken are such cool nicknames for this!)
Marius
Marley
Merritt
McKinley (love the nns Mac/Max or even Lee/Leo!)
Milo/Milos/Miles
Moses/Moshe (while I think Moses would work better with Sally, I've always had a soft spot for the very-Hebrew Moshe! I think it's adorable)
Good luck!Ashley

I tend to agree that while Matthew is a sensible solid name, there's nothing very exciting about it. As others have suggested, my first thought was Matthias. I'm not taken with Murray but would probably prefer it over Matthew.
Other M names that spring to mind are Marcus, Mitchell, Milton and Murphy. Good luck with it!
