I think it can be pronounced either Jo-hanna or Jo-anna. It works either way. Depends on the parent. I'm also from the Midwest which is probably why I've never heard of Yo-Haun-Nuh before. Coincidentally, my sister's name is Johnna (John-a) and she gets every thing from Joan-a to Jo-anna to Jo-Hanna. It's like no ones ever seen a feminine version of John before, haha.

I say joe-HAH-nah, which wasn't really an option, lol. yo-HAUN-ah would be my second choice, though.

I love this name, and I think spelling it Johanna should help alleviate all the fuss about the pronunciation; however, names are funny that way! Personally, I say it 'Jo-Hannah'. I think to pronounce it 'Jo-Hahn-Ah', it should/would be spelled Johana (Sort of like the difference in sound so often found with the names Anna / Ana, for example). I am actually not too fond of the name Joanna, but that is probably mainly because of a former association that is not too pleasant. I would NEVER even think to call a Johanna by the name Joanna--to me, they are COMPLETELY different names.

I have the prn Jo-hanna but but the h is a little soft, like it's not absent like in Joanna but it's not screaming Hannah either. I can understand Jo-hahn-a but don't think it's default for me.

I have a huge crush on this name!
