I really don't see the importance of names of a couple having the same feel. They come from a different family, so I think it's just very expected that their names are of different styles. So for me Earl and Sierra doesn't sound better nor worse that John and Mary.
Here are some interesting couple names I know that I think complement each other very well:
- Julius and Geraldina
- Hans and Anna
- Linden and Greta

I have some interesting friends...
Daniel and Danielle - go by Danny and Dani (engaged)
Aaron and Karen (engaged)
Lawrence and Lorelei - go by Larry and Lori (married)
Jeffery and Jennifer - go by Jeff and Jenn (married) - Also, Jeff's sister married a man named Jeffrey nn Jeff
I also have a friend who has three brothers and they all married girls named Sarah
I know a couple who are both named James and both go by Jim
I know another couple who are both named Elizabeth and one goes by Beth and the other goes by Betty
While not a couple (they're only 3), my daughter Grace has a BFF named Reece and they are collectively called "Greece" (oh yeah, another couple in our "group" just had a daughter named Macy, so I'm sure the three of them will be called "Greasy")
I didn't realize how many couples I knew like this until I thought about it...My girls: Grace Patricia "Gracie Pat" & Eloise Martha "Elsie Mae"
Guys: Julian, Desmond, Tobias, August, Silas
Dolls: Iris, Hazel, Flora, Margo, Agnes

haha this is funny I'm an Alix and my fiance is Skyler. I always so if we go anywhere were we don't know the people they won't know who is who with such gender-neutral names. Fyi. I'm the girl and he is the guy.
I almost dated another Alex though that would have been odd Alex and Alix.
My friend Shannon has a brother named Ryan and she is dating a Ryan. Her other brother married a Shannon. So they have 2 Shannon's and 2 Ryan's in the family.

I know an Anne and Andy--just like the rag dolls, haha. My guy and I have names with slant rhyme (Dylan and Ellen), which used to bother me a tad, but it hasn't ever affected anything (except that sometimes people will yell for one of us, and we won't quite catch which person was called). And since any partner is a package deal, if one of his least desirable qualities is his name half-rhyming with mine, I'll take it

I don't think Earl and Sierra sound too out of place. Mine and DH's names don't sound great together. I'm Lucy and he's Liam. Technically he's William (on his birth cert) but he's always gone by Liam. I think we'd sound more "matched" as William and Lucy.
Other names of couples I know:
Shawn and Shauna
Carly and Karl
Will and Lynn (sounds like "willing" if you say it fast!)Proud Mama to Two Perfect Little Ladies.
Big Girl, 25.04.2007
Small Girl, 06.09.2011

This can often get tricky with same-sex couples - I knew a John and Jonathan (no longer together) several years ago. My partner is Sarah and I am Stefanie - that's about as close as I'd like to get because things can be confusing.
And I knew a Patricia and Patrick who went by Patty and Pat.
My brother and his brother in law both have the same name - but they sometimes go by "little B--" and "big B--" because my brother is a couple of years older. So both of their respective daughters have an Uncle B as well (which is what they call them).
