"international" double names
After brainstorming a couple of weeks ago, I realized that I really like the idea of having a double first name for a girl. I am looking for names that will fit in in America, sound feminine, are easily translated into Italian, and would work in France as well as the UK.
Some of the names that I have been playing with:
Anna
Emma
Sara
Cara
Clara
Ella
Maria
Eva
Lila
Maria
Sofia
Lucia
Bella
Elisa
Elena
Anna-Sofia, Anna-Lucia, Anna-Maria, Ella-Maria, Sofia-Clara, Eva-Elena, Maria-Elena, Sara-Elena, Sara-Lucia, Emma-Clara, Emma-Sofia, Cara-Elisa, Cara-Elena, Anna-Elisa, Eva-Maria
Hyphen or no hyphen? space or no space? Are there any you really like or really think don't work?
Can you please help me brainstorm some combinations? Thanks so much,

A double name I once considered was Emily-Fleur. I also liked Emily-Autumn (was I going through an Emily phase at the time???) and Ida-Maria. I like them with the hyphen. Without the hyphen, it kind of starts to look like those kree8tyv spelling names (I know a KaeyLah...)
Of the ones you chose, I like these combos:
Sofia-Bella
Eva-Maria
Sara-Lucia
Ella-Maria
Can be used without the hyphen without looking funny
Annabella
Annamaria
Elisabella (possibly. It is kind of made up, but could be an alternative to Isabella)Last edited by nymphalis antiopa; February 4th, 2012 at 12:54 AM.

I think Elisabella is legit, however I think it would probably get confused with Isabella and Elisabetta a lot. My fiancé has aunts named Isabella, Annelisa or Annalisa and Elisabetta. I LOVE their names and would love to use them as a possible middle name one day!

I really love Anna-Sofia and Anna-Lucia from your list.
How are you pronouncing Lucia? loo-CHEE-uh or loo-SEE-uh or LOO-shuh? I definitely prefer the loo-CHEE-uh pronunciation. Eva-Maria is also very pretty!
How about;
Lila-Maria
Lila-Sofia
Elena-Lucia
Annabella {this works as a name on its own, without the hyphen AND space}
Clara-Bella
I think I prefer them with the hyphen. I think they start to look a little odd if they're spelled LilaSofia, for example. I don't like the two capitals, thus preferring them with the hyphen.Katie Charlotte.

I love Anna-Sofia! I think Ella-Maria and Anna-Lucia are very pretty, as well. I love the idea of using Emma, Clara, Cara, or Sara, but I'm not sure about the combinations you have listed.
I recently discovered a family name, Anna Clara Elizabeth, and I think Anna-Clara would be such a sweet double-name! Just another idea.
Good luck!Ashley

My fiancé is Italian, so we would be using the Italian loo-CHEE-uh for Lucia.
Anna, Sara, Maria, Elena and Lucia seem to be very popular in Italy right now, while names like Isabella and Elisabetta are not (at least for babies). I love Annelisa, and would love to use as a middle one day. Do you think by creating a double name with these very popular choices, makes it a little more unique?
