    Carlin

I came across the name Carlin last night for a little girl and wondering what everyones thoughts are on it...

I thought that it sounded and looked a little too masculine but fell in love with the meaning. I've seen variations of it with a "y" and "K" instead for "C". I don't want to butcher the name and not trying to be unique, Maybe a little more
feminine to sell it to my husband. I personally like it as Carlin.

I'm not a fan at all, sorry. I had thought about it as a way to honor several people in my family, but then I made the George Carlin connection, and I don't think I'll ever consider it again. He said a lot of things I can't get past, and it's just a horrible association to me. It's quite masculine sounding to me, too, because of him. I think Cara or Carly would be a cute nn for it, though.

That's what I was thinking...having that comparison to George Carlin. That's why I was considering using the K or Y. My DH likes Cara so that could work if he even likes Carlin.

My sister had a friend with this name and I remember overhearing a discussion between them about their names, and Carlin said she absolutely loved her name. Ever since then I've warmed up to it! I like both Karlin and Carlyn better than Carlin and Karlyn though.

Hmm, Karlin and Carlyn still sound like Carlin, which is very George Carlin for me, and I think people are less likely to guess those spellings on the first attempt. I'd stick with Carlin if you use it. Hope your husband can agree : D.

What about Carlina? Carmen? Carlin just evokes both Caitlin/Kaitlyn and Carly to me, which are both sort of trendy.

I feel like I'm being a little harsh on it here - it's definitely better than a lot of names I can think of, but it's still also kind of hard for me to like. But you know, I know how names grow on people : D. I'm sure if I met a Carlin I'd probably have that reaction.
