Vote on my short list and/or give some more suggestions!

Going to be TTC #3 in the spring. Been tossing some boys names around this week while I'm on vacation (I do not want to be consumed with naming when I'm pregnant- it'll be my last pregnancy and I want to enjoy it without scouring name books and sites every single day!)
    Brothers are K_ai and F_inn.

    Dashiell nn Dash
    Leo
    River
    Seamus (nn Shea)
    Reid

I kind of backed myself into a naming theme (one syllable sea related names) so I really wanted to try to find something to fit with that, but it's been so difficult. I've looked at names with water meanings to names that remind you of the sea (like Finn) and even names that can somehow be affiliated with water, such as beach names or plants that grow near water (which is where I came up with Reid/Reed).

Dashiell has always been a favorite, and even though Dash sounds great with the other 2, I worry that it seems out of place- will my 3rd son wonder why we didn't choose a nature name for him as well?

Leo has so much going for it- it's short, spunky, and I love the brave/strong lion affiliation. Plus, it reminds me of summer since the astrological sign of Leo is ruled by the sun (we were also married in Florida- the sunshine state- so that's a plus). Also, my middle name is Lee. It seems like this should be the front runner for all of those reasons, but DH doesn't seem as thrilled about it...

River- just love River. I was a big River Phoenix fan, and my first diary entry ever when I was 9 (which I still have) said something about loving River Phoenix so much Can't get much closer for a water name.

Seamus- this is another name that I've loved since I was a kid. We love the name Shea, and thought Seamus would be a great way to give a longer more formal name. Again, out of place?

Reid- a very nice name that I just realized last night fits with our theme, but not head over heels about it. DH does really like it though.

Thoughts on these names? Additional suggestions?

I'm starting to wonder if I should just forget trying to stick with the theme and just pick a name that we really like?

I think the third child of the same gender is SO hard to name. It feels like you have to either solidify a theme or bust it completely.

If you have something you're really in love with, I'd be inclined to say go with that. If your real favorite is Dashiell, it's not so far out from the other two -- especially with the nickname -- that it's going to demolish the water theme. Honestly, I think it could tip the balance to "Irish" names and leave the firstborn the odd man out. But really if you're mostly using Dash, I think it works.

Seamus would DEFINITELY tip the Irish balance though.

Reid does fit the theme best IMO, but if you don't love it, don't feel like you have to use it.

River sounds like it might be your favorite going with the theme, and it definitely fits.

Leo sounds sweet with your other kids' names and makes for a more eclectic bunch, but again if you don't love it don't use it.

Have you tried running searches for meanings? Nameberry only offers a general "nature" option from a drop down box but at Babynames.com you can enter any meaning you like, and you could search for beach, sun, ocean, fish, water, all kinds of things.

Of course, it could always be a girl........ ;-D

I just realized that one of my current crushes, Dax, has a water meaning. It could fit if you like it.

My favorite by far is Leo. I think Leo sounds great with your boys' names. Hope you can convince your husband to like it!

I think Reid fits best with your boys. I like Leo as a runner up.

The book I had just been reading when I posted this is, "The Very Best Baby Name Book in the Whole Wide World" by Bruce Lansky. It says that Dax is of French and English origin and means water.

Nameberry cites Dax as a French place name and Behind the Name says it's either a French place name or a version of an English surname http://www.behindthename.com/name/dax

So I guess there is some discrepancy there, certainly not a widely-accepted meaning on this name. There are other Berries here who have whole collections of books and are a lot more savvy at finding out the history of names than I am, maybe someone else will pick this up or you can post another message asking for help on this point.

Wow I used to nanny two brothers named Kai and Finn. Their mother then had a third baby boy and named him Rohan (said like Rowan). From your list I like Reed and River. Some names popular with beachy surfer babies around here that might also go with your boys names are (some are more 'out there than others')
    Cruz
Wade (like to wade through water)
    Reef
    Beech
    Taj (famous surfer name)
    Dax
    Cole
    Sawyer
    Beau
    Blue
    Rider (riding waves)

DH actually loved Rider/Ryder, but I had a hard time picturing it on an adult, so we ended up nixing it. Can it grow with a child?
