You’re now in your Sophomore year of college. You’re proud of your little brother, Liam because he’s informed you that he’s enrolled in his local community college. You still feel bad for leaving him behind with your crazy family, but he constantly tells you it’s fine and he doesn’t mind. He’s happy to see you happy, and he’s afraid he doesn’t quite have the ability to go to the college you’re going to.

You’ve gotten great grades, but this semester seems to be harder. You just can’t keep your focus and you don’t have any motivation to do any of your homework. Then you start to wonder if you’re sick. You haven’t had much of an appetite, you’ve felt nauseous on and off, and you can’t seem to get enough sleep. Your roommate, Violet asks you if you’re feeling okay. You tell her you think you’re going to go to the doctor and tell her how you’re feeling. She starts laughing and you ask why. She digs through a suitcase under her bed, pulls out a small box, and hands it to you. It’s a pregnancy test kit. Your jaw drops. How could you be so naïve? These are the exact signs. Then your heart drops. How will Holden react? Then you start crying. Violet asks you why you’re crying. You tell her you’re afraid of how Holden will react. She tells you to shut it and go take the test – you have no reason to cry until you know for sure. You go into the bathroom, pee on the stick, and hand it to Violet – you don’t have the guts to look. After a minute, she smiles, gives you a big hug, and says, “Now, you can cry.” And cry, you do.

Violet helps you figure out how to tell Holden. When you tell him, you’re quite thrown off by his reaction. He remains completely calm, smiles, and hugs you. Suddenly, you’re the absolute center of his world. Everything revolves around you. What do you want to do? What do you want to eat? Do you want him to do some of your homework for you so you can get more sleep? And then the big question comes… Do you want to get an apartment off-campus with him? You can’t give birth to and raise a baby in a dorm room, so an off-campus apartment is your only choice. But the fact that he asked you to live in it WITH him made you melt inside. You couldn’t love him any more, at this point.

A little while after you move into your new apartment, you give birth.

Today’s the day! You’re so excited. Your brother, Toby is arriving on campus. The moment you see him, you run into his arms. You find out where his dorm is, what classes he has, and where your paths can intersect between classes. And his dorm room is very close to Dash’s dorm room, so you won’t have to go far to visit them both.

One night, you call Toby to your dorm. You want him to bring you something to eat, but nothing sounds good either. You tell him how you’re feeling and he says he’s with Dash, so they’ll both head over. When they get there, Dash looks worried. He asks you if you’ve taken a pregnancy test, and your heart drops. Toby immediately volunteers to go buy one…he looks WAY too excited. When he gets back from the store, you take the test. Two little lines show up and it’s official – you’re pregnant. Toby looks to be the most excited. Dash looks awfully stressed. You’re feeling a little of both.

Toby does everything for you. He’s agreed to not spill the beans to your parents, but you know you have to tell them soon. You can’t raise a baby in dorms, so you have to move out. You’ve mentioned it to Dash and he’s agreed that you need to get an apartment, but you’re a little disappointed that he’s left it as “you” and not “we”. He hasn’t offered to move out with you, but Toby has.

You’re now 6 months along in your pregnancy and it’s absolutely obvious that you’re pregnant. You’ve found a cute little apartment near campus and you’ve decided that’s the best place for you to stay, but it’s 3 bedrooms and far more expensive than your measly part-time job can pay for. So you know you now have to tell your parents, so they can help provide. When you tell them, they’re not happy…at all. But they feel that they baby should be cared for in the best way possible. They want to move you back home, so they can help. How can you go to school and raise a child. You don’t want to leave Dash or Toby behind, but your parents insist. They say your education will have to be put on hold. You’ll need to move back home and take smaller, part-time courses at the local college, while caring for your child until he/she is old enough to be away from you for most of the day. And so you’re whipped away from school within the next few weeks; just as the semester ends. You say your tearful goodbye’s and promise to keep in touch.

A few months later, you give birth.
