With all the violence of today, I would not want a brother to defend me. These days, a brother defending you could result in your brother being seriously harmed, or jumped by someone who also has a brother (or more brothers than you), someone who has friends, or has male cousins. I would rather call the police. I would not want to involve my brother. Plus, if you are an only child, most likely you would be the oldest. Therefore, your brother would be your baby brother. Suppose the person harming/harrassing you is stronger or bigger than your baby brother. And even if your brother was strong and big, he can't be everywhere with you. Personally, in the case of being harrassed or bullied, I think I'd rather call the police or take some self-defense classes.
btw -- your father, uncle, male cousins, friends, husband or boyfriend can defend you as well. Even your son can defend you when he becomes a teenager or adult. Sons are very protective of their parents especially their mothers. Brothers aren't the only ones to defend you. My male cousins are very protective of me. However, I don't like involving them in anything. As I stated before, I prefer to call the police. I don't want to involve any of my male relatives or male friends.
