    Unique Italian Names

My husband and I are looking for a beautiful Italian name that honors our heritage while also standing out as unique. We love names like Lucia, Sofia, and Olivia but all seem so overused and we fear our daughter will have several other classmates with the same name. We recently stumbled upon the name Eletta and really like it, but wonder if it sounds like we are trying to hard to have a "unique Italian name". We aren't into nicknames, but think if we did use one it could be Ella. What do you think of this name? Do you have any other suggestions?

I love Eletta! It's beautiful and I think other people will like it, too. I also love the nickname Ella.

I like Eletta, and the nickname Ella. However, if you are concerned about popularity, Ella and Ellie are extremely popular right now, both as names on their own and as nicknames. Etta would be much more uncommon as a nickname.

Here's a blog on the topic from nameberry: http://nameberry.com/blog/italian-gi...le-di-isabella

Some from the list I like are:

    Aurelia
    Fiora
    Lucrezia
    Milena
    Romilda
    Tiziana
    Vincenza

    Good luck!
