Re: The name TESLA -- unisex .
A tesla is the SI unit for magnetic flux density (after Nikola Tesla). There is also a Tesla Motors in California, a company that is developing an electric car. Personally, the name sounds more feminine but I wouldn't use this name for a girl or a boy. Sorry but I'm not a fan of naming children after scientific terms or brands. Common sense has to prevail when considering names for children.
All the best,
Mischa.

I'm showing my advanced age and lack of intellectual sophistication, but the first thing that popped in my head was the metal band, Tesla.

I actually like this name. In my opinion, it is a surname name so its no different than using Leighton, Addison, Anderson, Smith, or Elliot. Because of its sound, I would be more likely to use it for a girl. However, I don't think it would be horrible on a boy, especially if it were used as a middle name.

Tesla is one of my favorites, but I'm a geek. If Edison is ok, then why not Tesla? The image of a Tesla coil is the main image I get, because it's the only invention that's named after him. I think of it more as a girl's name though.

My favorites right now:
Girls: Alena, Anya, Emme, Fable, Gwyneth, Thalia, Thora, Vaiva
Boys: August, Bodhi, Blake, Declan, Eamon, Fergus, Finch, Rory

Don't like. I work with magnetic fields and besides it being a person, it is also a unit (named after the person). For me it is like naming your child Kilometer.

I think people who are into science use this name. I have seen it used a few times on females and the parents tended to be a fan of Tesla, so I think that has much to do with it. Plus, its different and has a pleasant and feminine sound, kind of like a unique version of Tessa.
