    Re: Nickname for Seraphina ?

I agree with Sheila - Sadie makes sense to me, since it's a nickname for Sarah. I would probably use Fina, but Sadie or Seri are great, too!

I though of Phina/Fina as a nickname but Sia is great!

Whatever you call her can be her nn so if you like Sadie that is fine. Another name that I love that could also be a nn for Seraphina is Sepphie.

Sadie is most definitely too far-fetched for Seraphina in my opinion.

    They're radically different to me.

Ideas: Sera, Phina, Seri/Siri, Nina, Ari.

I wouldn't think of Sadie as a nn for Seraphina but I guess it's not too far fetched - a friend of mine's name is Louise and her family call her Lucy more than they call her Louise which I find quite bizaare. Sadie is a nn for Sarah, so Sera (phina) nn Sadie isn't too outrageous, as someone pointed out earlier...

I do prefer Fi/Fee though. So spunky! And still unexpected as most people would likely assume her full name was Fiona

My mother is Dutch and her name is Fietje (pronounced Fee-cha), which in Holland is a nickname for Josephina (her given name). Since that's based on only the -phina part, which that name shares with Seraphina, the same nickname could be used. Of course, Sera would be the more obvious nickname for Seraphina.

Well this is an interesting question as on another thread I thought that Jack was an okay nn for Jonathan even though John and Jonathan are unrelated names. I can see this is a similar thought since Sadie is a traditional nn for Sarah, and Sarah sounds like Seraphina even though the names are completely unrelated.

I don't think the thought process works quite as well with Seraphina though, and it's because Sadie is just not as well-known and common a nn for Sarah as Jack is for John. I think most people don't realize that Sadie is a nn for Sarah in the first place, so the jump from Sadie to Seraphina is going to be even more of a stretch. Sadie nn for Seraphina is definitely not "bad," but it's definitely not intuitive. It could be done though. There are some other great nn suggestions posted by others too.

I know one who goes by Sera (sounds just like Sarah) and Fina, which I really don't like. Personally I don't get the love for this name.
