    still need SO much help...

hi girls! i am needing so much help. firstly, this is our fist daughter after two boys, Owen and Sullivan. Secondly, we are totally undecided. i *think* i love a name and then i just feel that it isn't the ONE. please, please, please help me if you can, by adding any input on my name choices and ANY additional names you think might fit. my style is that i like old fashioned/classic names, but nothing very popular (think top 10 or 20) or or "out there".

    1. Fiona. This is my true love name i think. but i get hung up on it sounding to old ladyish or to shrek-ish. will she be made fun of? is it to different?
    2. Phoebe. This was my pick of a girls name for years. now i am kinda *meh* on it sometimes, and other times i LOVE it. is it to closely related to Friends? is the double -ee to much?
    3. Daphne. OK, my husband LOVES this name, i like it but feel its a bit "cartoonish" (i am certain because of scooby doo). does it sound to British? we are irish/english/welsh. would it incur to much teasing (daffy, daft, scooby).
    4. Charlotte. this was the name i had picked from the start of the pregnancy but then changed my mind because i hate how popular it is. also, is Lottie as a nn cute? is it to popular?
    5. Amelia. also- is it to popular? HATE the nn Amy, but would love Milly or Lia.
    6. Violet. something about it looks harsh... maybe its close association to violence? anyone else feel this way? but i do love it.
    7. Vivian. i loved this name until i found out it was a boys name also. would that bother you? i feel it looks masculine for some reason. anyone else?
    8. Eveline- love this, but looks like Eva -line instead of how i would say it as Eva-leen. also, not sure DH is on board.
    9. Natalie/Nataleigh- always loved this name, but is it to popular also? to boring? what nn's could i use?
    10. Rosalie- DH is not on board with it but i LOVE it. the nn Rosy is to cute also wdyt?

Our last name is Irish, 3 syllable ends in -son. PLEASE any help???

Re: still need SO much help...

    1. Fiona -- I don't think its too closely related to Shrek. Its common enough that I wouldn't have instantly associated it with the film, plus, Fi or Fifi are fun nns
    2. Phoebe-- I change my opinion on this one a lot. I do think it has a lot of 'Friends' connotations, and I can never quite decide how I feel about it but that's just me.
    3. Daphne-- I don't think of Scooby first, I always think of Daphne from Fraiser when I hear this name. But unlike Phoebe, I know I like this one all the time
    4. Charlotte-- I think its pretty darn popular, but its a classic so that's expected. Lottie is a great nn, and I have a friend Charlotte who everyone calls CeCe
    5. Amelia--I hear its getting popular, though I don't know any little Amelia's so I can't confirm that! I love this name though.
    6. Violet-- Huh! I never thought of 'violent/violence' before with this one. I think its a wonderful name, but its a bit too popular at the moment for my taste
    7. Vivian-- A boys name?! I can't imagine a boy named Vivian. Maybe you'd have less problems thinking it looked too masculine if you spelled it Vivienne?
    8. Eveline- Hmmm, never seen this one before. Its okay, no my favourite from your list though.
    9. Natalie/Nataleigh- Prefer the first spelling. Nns--Nat, Natty, Lee, maybe even something like Tallie?
    10. Rosalie- I like this one, but I think it veers a bit on the younger side because of the 'ie' ending--it also reminds me of the Twilight books. I do like it, but I'd prefer something like Rosamund or Rosemary, even Primrose...there's loads of names that can get you to the nn Rosy!

With an Irish last name, I think you could have a more Irish first name as well. I have a crush on several Irish/Welsh names that because my surname aren't really a good fit but might work for you?
    What about--
    Imogen
    Siobhan
    Maeve
Aoife (though this probably qualifies under too 'out there', which you noted wasn't your style!)

Other options your list made me think of are:

    Camilla
    Carys
    Margot
    Lydia
    Scarlett
    Josephine
    Susannah

    Good luck!

I think a lot of people out there have never seen Shrek. (Like myself!). Fiona is great! Go with your first choice!

Re: still need SO much help...

I think my naming style is sort of similar to yours.

Fiona- I love this name. I would not have thought to associate this with any movie. Fi is an adorable nick name. I don't see old lady at all with this name. I can see it easily on all ages.

Phoebe- I do like this name too. I wouldn't worry about Friends at all. I don't think "Friends" when I hear Phoebe, and kids her age definitely won't. I think Phoebe is a very "cute" name, not as "pretty" as Fiona.

Daphne- I like this name too, but I see what you mean about cartoonish. I wouldn't think it would be a teasing risk, but it isn't my favorite of your list.

Charlotte- I am not a fan. I have never liked the name Charlotte. I think it is really bland compared to your other name choices and your sons names. It's just a common name. I think you can do better! But, I think I am in the minority as lots of berries seem to love this name. If you like the name, save it for the middle spot.

Amelia- This is pretty and girly. I don't *think* it is too popular yet, but it is definitely rising in popularity each year. It jumps about 10 spots each year. In 2009 it was number 55.

Violet- I love the name Violet. I guess I see what you mean about looking "harsh", but it doesn't bother me with this name. However, it obviously bothers you, so maybe leave this for a middle?

Vivian- I love the name Vivian. I don't think anyone would think of Vivian as a potentially boy name. It is very girly to me. And I don't think anyone would name their son Vivian today. But again, if you can't get passed the fact that at one time it was also a boys name I would nix it or leave it for a middle.

Eveline- I love this name. I also love Evelina. However, I think for pronunciation reasons I would only use this in the middle. What do you think of just Evelyn? Evelyn is a beautiful name. Hmm..maybe a tongue twister with Sullivan though?

Natalie- I have always loved this name. I would use this spelling though. I don't think it's boring, but it is pretty common. Much more popular than your other choices.

Rosalie- Very cute, but it does sort of remind me of Twilight so I prefer it as a middle. Especially if DH isn't on board. Maybe he will agree to use it in the middle spot?

    My favorites for you:
    Owen, Sullivan, and Fiona
    Owen, Sullivan, and Natalie
    Owen, Sullivan, and Amelia
    Owen, Sullivan, and Violet

    Middle name combos:
    Fiona Charlotte
    Fiona Violet
    Natalie Fiona
    Natalie Violet
    Natalie Eveline
    Amelia Rosalie
    Amelia Eveline
    Violet Eveline

I think Violet Eveline is GORGEOUS!! I think that might be my favorite. I also really love Fiona Charlotte, Natalie Fiona, and Natalie Eveline.

I don't think you need to look any further. I think you have some really great options!

Re: still need SO much help...

lilybelle5: can i just say WOW! your input was immensly helpful. Ok... so for comparisons sake:

Fiona: you wouldn't worry about the Fion thing? why can't people just leave a gorgeous name along! the poor thing already has the Shrek association! i really don't see the issue but wanted other opinions on if the relation to Fion in French would dissuade them. you said it wouldn't? kids can be so mean... but i LOVE this name. i wouldn't think it could get teased any easier than any other name (my name is April and I got TONS of teasing but survived...).
Amelia: DH doesn't really LOVE this one... but he said he could get on board. lets just say that i like it most but it is still in the running.
Violet: this is actually a family name on DH's side.. i was thinking Violet Elise or Violet Claire but DH isn't in LOVE with Claire either. we are so different in our naming styles! i also love your idea of Violet Eveline... thanks!
Vivian: i LOVE the nn Vivi with this one... and the meaning too. so you do NOT see this as a masculine name at all? i think i could get past the old unisex usage... its been a 100 years We'd do Vivian Kate (DH looooves Kate!)
Natalie: could i get away with the nn Tallie? is that cute? i wouldn't like calling her Nat or Natty (yuck!). but i do like the meaning and she will *almost* be a Christmas baby it is a bit more... conventional than i like... but nothing wrong with that i guess... what about Natalie Kate?
Daphne: this is DH's fav right now. not that it won't change, but he does love it. i just don't want to name her anything that would incur lifelong teasing (daft, daffy, daph) which is why i also worry about Fiona. but seriously, i have come to realize ANY name can be teased with, right? what would you do for a mn? i thought of Daphne Kate since DH loves it...

these are probably my top 6 names. I also adore Phoebe but not sure about it... it is a 7th pick.

any more thoughts? good or bad about these names?

Re: still need SO much help...

I'm so glad I was helpful to you!

    Ok...
Fiona- Pay no attention to the Fion thing. I wouldn't worry about that AT ALL. Kids won't know what fion means in french. I don't even know what it means. I'm sure lots of names have a part that means something unfortunate in another language. We just don't know about it! I would forget about that. I LOVE Fiona for you!

Violet- I love that this is a family name! That would make me want to use it even more. At least as a middle if you don't want it as a first.

Vivian- Yes, I also ADORE the nickname Vivi. It is just so sweet/spunky! And no, this is not masculine at all!! I think it is a very elegant, classy, feminine, and sophisticated sounding name. It is one of my all time favorite names. And I love Vivian Kate! Very classy! Very glamorous!

Natalie- I agree about Nat and Natty. Not cute! Tallie is a great nn! Much more girly. Natalie Kate is also really pretty, but if it were ME, I would prefer a less common middle with Natalie, to make it a little more interesting, know what I mean?

Daphne- I think Daphne Kate sounds lovely. But, do you love it? Honestly, I wouldn't worry about the teasing. You are right, kids are brutal and will FIND something to tease about ANY name if they want to. I would not have thought of Daphne as a tease risk.

Phoebe- What about this name is throwing you off? Just curious. It definitely has a less sophisticated feel than all of your other choices. I think it's a great name, but I just like the others more. It has a fun, artsy, cool vibe. All the others all have a daintier, girlier, almost sexier feel to me.
