Re: Neo
I think it's very cool. That's the best word I can use to describe it- insanely cool. But the Matrix was my first thought, and personally I think it's too strong of a connection to use as a full name. I think it would work wonderfully as a nickname, but I'm not sure what it could be for- Nicholas maybe? or Arsenio? Nico is similar but doesn't have the same connection.

Re: Neo
I never saw the film "Matrix" so I don't have any association for Neo. My concern would be that it has the same sound as Romeo. It's the "eo" I think that doesn't appeal to me. It doesn't even sound like a name to me. Leo or Nemo would be an improvement. Alot of the short names that end in "o" are from other cultures - Rollo, Ivo, Iolo, Teilo, Iago, Otto, Milo, Mungo, Hugo, Serlo, Zeno, Camlo, Nilo, Jaco, Benno, Waldo, Viggo, Miko, etc... Let me try again. Something short and Latin. Unfortunately, some of the names below still have a Spanish or Italian association . You said in your other post that you and your husband are over Spanish and Italian names but unfortunately those are the names that are given on various websites when "LATIN" is entered. If you want really Latin names, you would have to look up ancient or mythological names and most of them are not short (eg Claudius or Virgil). Perhaps you are looking for Latin "word" names (eg. I remember Rio was a name you were considering). I'm kind of confused on your criteria but here goes my last shot at it. My favs are in bold.
Cato - Latin for the "wise one"
Draco - Latin for "dragon"
Arlo
Ovid - Roman poet
Dino
Fausto
Oro
Tauro
Timo
Aldo
Hero - female mythological figure but I think it's better for a boy
Enzo
Tito
Aquilo - Roman God of the North Wind
Cedro
Rico
Marco /Marko - Marko is the Slavic form and may work in Croatia
Cleto
Apollo
Amado
Cidro
Balbo
Ezio
Nero
Banquo - Shakespearean name
Cisco
Curro
Dacio
Frisco
Jairo
Mauro
Pirro
Reno
Tajo
VitoAll the best,
Mischa.

Re: Neo
Neo is a Latin prefix meaning "new." I think it would be weird as a name. Sort of like naming your kid Pre or Anti. I associate the name with the rapper Ne-Yo before the character from the Matrix. What about Nemo? The Disney association might be off putting for you though. I like the previous suggestions of Draco and Nico. My cousin recently named her son Cosimo. What about Cosimo or Cosmo? Rocco?

Re: Neo
Thanks so much for your responses. I think Mischa hit the nail on the head, I'm looking for a Latin "word" name, over a Latin name name.
It's tough, because we had that *ah ha* moment with Romeo, but have yet to have anything for any other names.
We have a large family, and Nico, Luca have been taken, TWICE! lol
Rocco is on our list, even though it's (awkwardly) staccato with our last name. I love Rio but husband does not. I'm on the right track (as are you all!!) so it's just a matter of 'clicking' with the right one.
Also, I'd forgotten about Ne-yo! That doesn't bother me...gives it more street cred. lol!
Miko is nice! Like Niko but a bit different. Otto is interesting! I'd never thought of that one. (((((off to suggest it))))

Re: Neo
That is all Matrix to me and a little dash of architecture. If you are looking for a true Latin name, then here are some suggestions.
Rufus
Lucretius
Julius
Tiberius
Cicero
Pliny
Mars
Remus
Varro
Titus
Hadrian
Gordian
Latin words that could be names:
Amicus--Friend
Dexter--right, on the right
Fideli--faithful
Fio--to make done
Imber--pounding rain
Lepidus--charming
Mox--soon
Rex
Silvus
Sol
Velux

Re: Neo
Aside from the Matrix connection, I can't get beyond the prefix thing either (as agirlinred said, it's like naming a child pre or anti). Both of those create the image of an stereotypically futuristic young man, like a boy without roots.
